2026 - all time boxoffice year?
2026 is stacked with movies from the following franchises: Mario, Avengers, Lord of the Rings, Frozen, Star Wars, Toy Story, Dune, Shrek, and Batman. Even if some of these films are pushed to 2027, it’s still shaping up to be an all time year, up there with 2019.

Re: 2026 - all time boxoffice year?
Certainly a stacked year. 2025 could have done it if Q1 wasn't so weak.
What I like also about 2026 is the Thanksgiving - Christmas 2025 slate is strong and that's going to pump up the January box office too from holdovers to give it added momentum.
Zootopia 2 and Wicked 2 (Nov 26, 2025) Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (Dec 5, 2025) Avatar 3 (Dec 19, 2025) SpongeBob Movie 4 (Dec 19, 2025) Freaky Friday 2 (Dec. 2025?)
Avatar 2 made $283M of its total the following year, Puss 2 $130M, and Otto $64M ($477M) so seems like a leggy Zootopia, Wicked, and Avatar combo with smaller movies could really give January a boost to keep the rest of the year strong.
Inflation will also be a driver. Technically, by 2026 the 2023 tally of $8.9B may even be closer to $10B so another $1.9B definitely isn't that far off.

I am also expecting Christopher Nolan's next movie in 2026. I am expecting its announcement in the near future.

Yup, finally a post-Covid year looking to rival 2001, 2004, 2012, 2015, 2019.
If BARBIE 2 is not out by 2026, WB has fucked royally as well.

Agreed, seems like a crazy year, hopefully we're still going! Nobody would be surprised if Avatar moves to 26 either... then again it could then move to 27 Excel wrote: If BARBIE 2 is not out by 2026, WB has fucked royally as well. I think Gerwig gets distracted by Narnia and Barbie takes longer than 3 years since the first.

Margot got pregnant too. Barbie development may not start at the earliest until 2026 at the earliest. Maybe a 2027 or 2028 release date at best.

It looks good right now but I don’t think Avengers and one of the Star Wars movies will make the release date

Some of these were 2025 films. When you look at 2025 now - it doesn't look all that strong. Like this year it is back end heavy but Avatar isn't even guaranteed for release.

Avatar has already been in post for 7 years. I see no reason why it should be delayed again.

TPOTC2 is going into production this year possibly for a 2026 release.
So this is what the 2026 roster looks like give or take a few films I've missed. What a massive year.
Scream 7 Mario 2 Mummy Avengers Doomsday The Mandalorian & Grogu Masters of the Universe Untitled Steven Spielberg film Scary Movie 6 Toy Story 5 Supergirl Minions 3 Moana live action The Odyssey Spider-Man: Brand New Day Untitled Alejandro G. Iñárritu film with Tom Cruise TMNT: Mutant Mayhem sequel Untitled Jordan Peele film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Jumanji 3 Ice Age 6 Dune 3 Shrek 5 Cat In The Hat Hoppers (Pixar)

Many heavy hitters there.
Possibly add Michael or Michael Part 2 to that list?
Surely Jumanji, Ice Age, Dune and Shrek can't all co-exist in December! Two should move to Q1 2027 (thinking Ice Age and Dune).

Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights with Robbie and Elordi being a Valentine's hit would be fun.

Doomsday is starting filming right now and is supposed to come out next May? Not sure about that.

Hence why MCU CGI is average at best.
