Can you tell me why Pete Hegseth is a good candidate to lead the Pentagon besides Trump said so

I have heard the Pentagon is one of the deepest part of the swamp and the last two guys (including one picked by Republicans admittedly) literally worked for defense contractors before they got nominated, so having someone a bit more of an outsider and less likely to be paid off by military industry complex although still a veteran sounds pretty good to me.

Post Re: The Trump Era: A more “normal” term
I really think this title for the thread is blatantly ignoring what is happening. There was just a freeze on all federal funding. Federal funding is the job of congress not the president, but with Trump firing so many people in the government and replacing them with people more loyal to Trump than American citizens, the people who administer these funds will illegally withhold them from people like children’s cancer research, because Trump told them to. Illegal? Sure, but Trump will just pardon them

Post Re: The Trump 2.0 Era
I stand by my take that the outrage cycle/hysteria type of reaction to Trump has died down compared to late 2010s and people's relationship to politics is becoming more normal. The far left is demoralized and their emotional signalling type of style may have finally exhausted them after a decade of 100/100 intensity.

But we'll change it to Trump 2.0 for now.

Trust in the media is far below where it was during Trumps first term so their attacks are far less successful

Post Re: The Trump 2.0 Era
I think 2.0 is fine. I also do kind of agree with your point in that less people are reacting to Trump, particularly in the legacy media, but I think this has to do more with fatigue than not being concerned. I for one have given up. I want to see America not turn into a dictatorship and I believe in this country and what it was founded on. So now all I can do is hope my concerns are wrong, but everything Trump has done in the last few days suggests he is here to amass power into the exuberance for him and him alone. I pray that I am wrong because I cannot believe it, but it is happening right in front of us, and so many are just too tired. We fought and lost and frankly the far left and their identity politics and wokeness and purity tests are partially to blame. We now have a guy who is the closest thing we have had to a dictator since perhaps Andrew Jackson.

Curious how the next day goes with the freeze on all federal funds. This could have a direct effect on people

Shouldn't this era be called Revenge of the Sith?

I must have missed the part when Luke sent the wookies to an island prison that also housed all the people who were responsible for blowing up Alderan.

Really hope Buttigieg runs for the Senate seat in Michigan. Even in a blue year he’s so unlikable he could lose that race.

He has all the same issues as Newsom, very progressive and comes across as elitist and disconnected from the common folk in interviews.
Plus he’s a carpet bagger and has a ton of gaffes from when he was the transportation secretary that can be used against him.
No one actually likes him he got where he is basically by being diverse.

Trump: “I AM your President!!!!”.

I called it revenge of the sith in 2016 when Trump won the republican nomination. Or at least said it felt like it.

Post was moved, but I think I’m obliged to be clear regardless:

If the wookies were a reference to species, or in any way to my species, or others, in context:

This in not intended as a joke or satire; my species is real and different whether or not you believe it.

DP is a weird mix of being insane but having somewhat common Trump derangement views.

One week into the presidency and it has been a shitshow thus far. Eggs are skyrocketing while he cuts off communication for federal agencies in charge of pandemics to address the issues of the avian flu leading to thousands of chicken deaths. His poorly handled federal funds freeze leads to several website crashes including issues with Medicaid. It is very obvious that the previous Trump administration was held together by professionals under the hood and now that he is deliberately hiring only on loyalty to him his terrible way to manage the largest bureaucracy in the Western World.

I doubt Trump could affect egg prices in a week.

I mean ultimately you are right, but it is more that the issue isn’t being addressed or is even being really acknowledged

They can use "but the price of eggs" as like a "but her emails" meme in 2017 and as a new viral phrase, but the journalists pushing it already jumped the gun. Like reaching with the Musk salute gate the online Discourse Left seems to be struggling to find a footing in this Trump era and thus defaulting into its previous patterns, but slightly off its game, whether it's because of demoralization, that they're psyched out by already doing this with Trump and having nothing new to say about him, or the Harris campaign being so astroturfed with paid influencers and planned online marketing strategies that it left a vacuum of organic people and energy.

The Canadian and Mexico tariffs feel like a bluff that will be lifted by Monday, similar to Colombia situation, where Canada and Mexico’s promises for border security will be enough to lift the tariffs. Do we think these border tariffs will truly actually happen?
