 Re: The Apprentice
One thing everyone will agree upon: they nailed the aesthetic of the time period.
What people won't agree on: is this a hero or villain origin story? Cause it really doesn't go hard on Trump at all. Even the much hyped rape scene literally has his wife "asking for it" a minute earlier. The first half of the movie could have been about any semi-normal, but very ambitious rich kid, who falls under the spell of a rotten man who teaches him all the dirty trick in the books, turning Trump into the brash, highly confident character that we knew him as for most of his life (before he switched to his current nazi dirtbag / political messiah character depending on the point of view.)
And really ... while the academy obviously used these nominations to rebel against his administration, Sebastian Stan actually deserves it for his transformation. He absolutely is Trump by the end of the movie. And Jeremy Strong gives a very protypical oscary performance, very physical and transformative. I'm actually surprised it didn't get even more nominations ... costumes and makeup/hairstyling could have easily happened, and really, if it had just hit Trump a bit harder than it did I could totally see this being in Emilia Perez's place as champion of the resistance.
So despite The Apprentice playing soft ball with such a hard target, its quite a fascinating experience that I'd recommend to people on both sides of the spectrum. 7.7/10

 Re: The Apprentice
Yeah this is one of the best “political hit piece” films I’ve seen. Stan and especially String are terrific and the film never feels like just a standard biopic. For what was clearly a low budget film, the production is high quality as well. I’m not sure how much here is true versus made up by liberals to make Trump look bad, but regardless of that they crafted a compelling origin story.
Was anyone else reminded of Revenge of the Sith at the end where they intercut one character’s funeral with another basically being reborn through plastic surgery?
