I think people liked MOS. It’s easily the best of the DCEU. I think considering the hype, only doing slightly better than Returns was a hiccup, but it did good internationally.

Cavill really should be playing him again. I literally can’t watch the 4th reboot of Superman that won’t be as good as the 78 film

No doubt. WB made a colossal mistake opening it just one week before WWZ and monsters u combined for $150m opening weekend. It just crushed MOS legs and everyone assumed it was due to poor WOM

Post Re: Superman: Legacy - 7/11/25
Man of Steel had mid reviews / WoM because the trailers were misleading. They tried to make it seem like the movie would be grounded high drama like TDK trilogy (shit they were even playing off recent best picture nominee Tree of Life) and then people are immediately bombasted by the batshit crazy opening on Krypton (which I love, btw.) WB then overcorrected by showing literally everything in the Batman v Superman trailers.

Post Re: Superman: Legacy - 7/11/25
MOS was too serious in comparison to TDK films. TDK films at least consistent sarcastic wit from Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, some humor from Bane and Catwoman, and obviously Joker was utterly hilarious. MOS had like 2 jokes and the phony "trying to be deep but really just making no sense" Codex "choose your way" crap. Plus it had Jonathan Kent saying Clark should maybe have let a bus of kids die. :hahaha: It was an imperfect film

In spite of that, the actors were very likable and the film moved at a tremendous pace so overall it was pretty well received. The film switches from dump philosophical stuff to badass popcorn film beginning with Zod's message to Earth and then really takes off in spite of a few cringe worthy lines of dialogue. A sequel which took a step forward in quality would have been a gigantic hit no doubt.

I think they cast it well and the visuals alone make it better than the Routh, but still directed by Zack and not a great movie, and tiring by the end. A lot of buildings died that day, RIP.

If they had advertised Man of Steel as what it was then wom would have been fine cause its a very entertaining film. The people who bitched in youtube comments about wanting a Nolan take on Superman would have seen it anyway.

WBs mid 2010s marketing team is my least favorite ever. That Suicide Squad trailer with Bohemian Rhapsody made them a shit ton of money but it still upsets me about how tryhard it was and how a movie directed by David Ayer was obviously not going to be anything like that.

Mos is a meh movie. Not great not terrible. And to have decent legs, you need to be better than meh.

I maintain Man of Steel and Batman v Superman (director's cut) are actually very good films and vastly more ambitious, complex, interesting and rewatchable than anything to come out of the MCU.

MOS was great, but everything else in the Snyderverse was mediocre.

Will The Suicide Squad continue to count as part of the Snyderverse or will it eventually be seen as the first film in the Gunnverse?

If it still counts, then Snyderverse produced one all time classic (TSS), two very good origin stories (WW and MoS), three major turds (WW1984, Shazam 2, Josstice League) and a whole bunch of mediocrity (everything else ... even the mostly good 4 hour cut of Justice League is undone by insisting Jared Leto on us at the end.)

...But I'd still do it all again just for the three good ones.

The bolded is unquestionably true and it will forever annoy me that the MCU churned out 85%+ RT scores one after the other despite not even attempting to have any sort of 'theme' and relying on exceptionally cookie cutter drama moments.

That said, BvS was just an enormous misfire. The director cut is not a very good film in the eyes of 90% of movie goers, though it is likely a decent step up from the 25% RT scored theatrical cut. MOS 56% on RT should have been a 70% but it needed a few script tweaks to get any higher. At the end of the day, MOS is a flawed but solid and mostly highly enjoyable film that fundamentally misunderstood traditionally Superman but just about pulls off what they're trying to do with him anyway. BvS was just a too many things thrown into a blender.

BvS is such a fascinating movie. For all its flaws I think it has been aging well.

Ok maybe not very good films as films per se, they are too long, bloated and some bad narrative choices, but they are interesting and watchable and at least were trying to be a sort of epic Greek tragedy esque take on superheroes.

Gunn’s work on Guardians and Suicide Squad is among the best recent superhero fare so I think he was a good choice to make sure it feels fresh.

Gunn is a brilliant choice no doubt, as is much of the cast, especially Brosnahan, we'll see.

This new guy is nowhere near as hot and handsome as Henry Cavill. Film is already doomed.

He really isn't... like the new dude in Twisters I didn't even think twice about him lol

The film will probably be good. Is it enough for it to do like $350m+ domestic? Eh. WB kinda needs this to do more than BvS WW, and I don't think that'll happen.

Statements like that will jinx the movie.

I liked the teaser trailer a lot, it looks like a film straight out of the comics.

There was almost no dialogue in the teaser. But its well done. Social Media buzz is strong. I think it should do well enough to not crater the DCU.
