Hello all! Time for our Tenth annual box office draft game! Unsure how many films we will draft this year, as looking at the schedule I only found the below 89 films that seem guaranteed to go theatrical. I am looking for between 6 and 12 players. It will again be a snake draft, and you pick by posting in the thread in the games forum, and we each take turns making picks.

At the end of 2025, we add up the North American gross of all of the films, and whoever has the highest total wins. Because some movies are released very late in the year, we can extend it until every film drafted finished its run

If a film moves out of 2025, we will allow a replacement but both posters who lose the film from their picks must agree on the replacement. There will be no penalty for both posters due to the still recovering theatrical landscape from the pandemic causing unforeseeable production delays, as well as the 2023 strikes.

If a film is moved off the 2025 theatrical schedule before the draft is completed, the draft will pause when the first person notices the move and posts it in the group. That player will then have a chance to pick another film before play continues.

550m cap per film.

Also, that summer schedule is still stupid and doesn't work at all. Hopefully Hollywood fixes it before we start.

Based on this list - 2025 unfortunately will drop in total BO from 2024 which is shocking considering 2024's slate was sparse.

I think it will be poor until the winter due to superhero flops but then it will finish strong.

Can we set up a mid year replacement draft in advance? Current system feels too luck-based. Moana 2 could have been the deciding factor in our group had I not bombed the draft so badly.

How would this work?

You need to pick better to ensure your movie(s) will actually be released. It is unfortunate when a movie is moved, but that is not the reason Flava bombed last year. He picked Joker 2, The Fall Guy, and Horizon 1 as his first three picks. He actually only had one replacement, and he got the very best replacment in Moana 2. So the current system seems, while not perfect, good enough.

That makes twelve. Might as well close signups already, zwack. Unlikely we get two more, and seven would be too many for a group anyway.

Moana 2 was pretty unique biggest movie of the year contender not even being on the radar. The best replacement is likely to be smaller going forward.

I just saw there’s a musical called Golden inspired by Pharrell’s life directed by Gondry starring some people like Janelle Monae, Nriam Tyree Henry and Halle Bailey. Stop making movies about Pharrell nobody cares!

lol certainly an overinflation of Pharrell's impact on pop culture.

Moana 2 is a dream replacement selection. These don't grow on trees. It was essentially what Spider-verse 3 was supposed to be.

Two teams of 6 sounds like a plan.

Yeah thats why Im suggesting it now, when the current rule clearly benefitted me rather than someone else.

Not sure how it would work though. I guess whoever had the highest pick move will get the best pick the midyear draft?
