Financially, yes, but I don't think the cast would be very interested. At least not Anne Hathaway with the way her career goes now. Of course, they could do the film without her, everyone just cares about Streep. But somehow, I don't think she's much of a sequel type either.

So this is a GO apparently at Disney. They've brought back the original screenwriter. Original director, producers and cast apparently negotiating to return. The core three also reunited at awards shows recently and the stage version is about to go live with Vanessa Williams.

The new film is set to put Streep's character against Blunt who is now a high level exec at another company.

Mean Girls (2024) wasn't even a direct sequel but musical remake but rode on nostaliga to a $33.4M 4day weekend. I feel this new film if they get the main cast back together will be massive ($200M+).
