The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
Quote: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is a 2023 American dystopian action film directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Michael Lesslie and Michael Arndt. It is based on the 2020 novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, serves as a prequel to The Hunger Games (2012), and is the fifth installment in The Hunger Games film series. The film stars Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis. Set 64 years before the events of the first film, its plot follows the events that eventually lead a young Coriolanus Snow on the path to becoming the tyrannical leader of Panem, including his relationship with the Hunger Games tribute Lucy Gray Baird during the year of the 10th Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes had its European premiere in Berlin, Germany on November 5, 2023, and was released in the United States on November 17, 2023, by Lionsgate Films.

Idk how this would hold on another viewing but I liked this a bit. Thought both leads were great.

Doesn't even compare to the original movies in terms of scope or acting even though both the leads are great. This takes its time to build the world yet it's overstuffed and the end is really abrupt there is never any indication that Cornelius will take those actions other than viewers knowing the history of the character, the final connection back to Capitol is shoe-horned.. The first two parts are great and i would have loved for the movie to build stakes and end there. Third part is where lots of unnecessary singing comes in and take away a lot of pace then just rushes towards the known ending.
Viola Davis makeup is amazing even though i felt she did well get character gets the short end of the stick, same goes for Dinklage. You can see that there are snakes in the title as well as the movie and they kept of implying there title in the movie as if to justify the title which was totally unnecessary.
6/10. B-/C+

The Hunger Games feel like the Pirates series, something just belongs to a specific moment in time and not in a good way.

The special effects look better than the majority of what comes out today, and there's a lot of stuff in there so wacky and weird, Disney would never try it today. This movie is fantastic, second favorite after Catching Fire. I was not a huge fan of the book, found it ok, but this film does a bang up job of livening the proceedings and making everything exciting. Fast paced and tightly plotted. You do get a little antsy during the part 3 section of the movie, but its still pretty engaging. Supporting cast is stellar as well.

I thought this was mostly good but I really don't get why She just assumed he'd betray her once they found the guns. She already had so much information that could have buried him. What was one more? One of those endings that makes me wonder what the point of any of it was.
