After seeing many reviews specifically call out Gosling it makes me think we could see a battle for supporting between Gosling and DeNiro. At the very least he could get an Oscar nod.

The prestige of a $200M oscar bait film, the prestige of the talent involved, the prestige of how much white guilt it will summon and the prestige of being a classic-style film for fans of classic cinema the year after a wacky multiverse movie won. If Downey Jr gets close for Oppenheimer for supporting actor, would he be a guy like Pitt in OUATIH where he's got tons of industry connections who want him to win, or one like Stallone and Murphy where burnt bridges in his past and snobbery towards his populist choices catches up to him and he loses as the favorite on Oscar night? I'd lean towards the Pitt scenario.

I'd agree. Hollywood also like the idea of someone turning their life around, if the media can push that angle.

Not likely to happen but it would be fun to have these two movies be the Oscar frontrunners too so the B+O battle goes on to Oscar night. Along with Spider-verse would be something to see 3 mega blockbusters up for BP.

Wonka practically feels like it's going to be a BAFTA favorite already so along with Dune could have a stacked box office BP list next year. I could even see a dark horse chance of the Marley movie overperforming box office wise as well.

Going to make the call now that Margot and Cillian will present together at next year's telecast. The Academy would be foolish to not try to jump on the bandwagon and have Barbie and Oppenheimer at the Oscars in a viral moment.

This could be a fantastic bounce back year for box office/Oscar movies, one of KOFM, Napolean or Color Purple could break out big too, and Dune 2 if it gets nominated again?

Oppenheimer is definitely a theater movie. I don't think it will play as well on dvd screeners in the middle of the night. Will be rooting for Nolan on Oscar night though and would love to see Cillian take it too.

After watching the 2nd KOFM trailer this definitely seems like a movie the Oscars can give Best Picture to feel good about themselves.

Leo is very good at getting his supporting actors Oscars too (Waltz-Django, Pitt-Hollywood, Blanchett-Aviator).

Based on the sheer size of Barbie, it looks like it could be career defining roles for Gosling and especially for Margot. It's going to be hard for anything to come close to this in their careers ($550M+ movies). Almost like a Forrest Gump for Hanks type movie role. Leo pretty much could ride Titanic to work with the best directors in Hollywood on projects he wanted to so quite interested in seeing what Gosling and Robbie end up doing career path wise.

We can't just have people's answer for "A list celebrity" be Pitt, Aniston, Jolie, Clooney, etc. for 50 years, so I hope Robbie or Gosling get put over in that department

It's early but I kinda feel like Margot and Cillian can win Actor and Actress. Not only is it deserved but it'd be pretty iconic and ratings may be record high.

I'm not convinced Barbie will be a serious contender for BP and same for Margot for Actress. She was good but didn't stand out as an amazing Oscar-worthy performance IMO. Gosling is a safer bet for Actor I'm thinking.

I think Oppenheimer could be the film to give Nolan a BD Oscar. But Scorcese might win it too, I imagine some Academy members may think this is the last time to recognize him since he's getting up there in age.

I think Nolan for BD in a split scenario makes sense even if Oppenheimer ends up too much of a white bro Picture win and some other "underdog" movie beats it.

I don’t see how Cilian Murphy doesn’t win for what is a Heath Ledger level performance. Best Director and Film nominations are locks. Oppenheimer takes at least one.

Barbie for best costume design perhaps. Though perhaps Napoleon or Dune will be strong front runners.
