 Grammys 2023
Nominees will be announced Nov 15, but the eliginility period ended on Sept 31. So we are in grammy season again.
Last year, Jon Batiste shocked the world with his album of the year win. Combined with Silk Sonic winning both sound categories, it showed the Soul is still the genre to beat at these awards show.
Also, they finally got rid of the secret nominations committee, but it didn't seem to have too much effect on the awards. Quincy still got his man in and got the big victory, as he usually does.
This year I doubt we will see any random winners though. There's just too many heavy hitters.
Adele Kendrick Lamar Beyonce Silk Sonic The Weeknd (if he submits) Lizzo Robert Plant and Allison Kraus Abba Steve Lacy Encanto soundtrack
Are my current predictions for album, with a similar set of people for record/song. Taylor is technically eligibile with the Red remake, but I don't think they'll go further than a possible Songwriting nomination for the ten minute All Too Well.
Adele will likely win again as she always does, and then use her acceptance speech to apologize to Beyonce and Kendrick on behalf of all the whites. Would love to see Mr. Morale take it though. Is it the best album of the year? No, that goes to Beach Bunny or Ice Nine Kills, but since neither of them have a chance, why not do the right thing for once? Savoir is a great candidate for the song categories as well.
I'll update the poll when real nominations are announced. For now will just stick with the top contenders.

 Re: Grammys 2023
Beyonce or Kendrick will get it so Grammy voters can prove they're not racist, even though Beyonce's album sucked.

 Re: Grammys 2023
I dunno, grammys don't really respond to backlash like that. They respond to ratings, which is why all 10 nominees are pop or pop adjace now. And I think Kendrick would pop the ratings more than Beyonce by giving hip-hop fans hope that their favorite has a chance next year.

 Re: Grammys 2023
It's gonna be Adele.
Beyonce went full on Disco for it to grab the notmal voters. Plus Adele is literally unbeatable hasnt she lost just one category in all of her noms?

 Re: Grammys 2023
Happy to see ABBA nominated, I'm still kind of shocked at the quality of their album and that it belongs in the convo with their other ones.

 Re: Grammys 2023
I'm rooting for:
Album - Mr Morale Record - The Heart P5 Song - All Too Well New Artist - Wet Leg All Rock Categories - Turnstile
Predicting:
Album: 30 Record: Easy on Me Song: Easy on Me New Artist: Latto All Rock Categories - Not Turnstile. Maybe they'll get one!
The biggest disappointment might be the new video game category. No Death's Door or Elden Ring? Come on.

I'm personally happy that Brandi Carlile got as many noms as she did even if she doesn't win in the big ones.

 Re: Grammys 2023
I actually think there's like 7-8 possible winners here for album including people like Brandi, Kendrick and Lizzo

 Re: Grammys 2023
Beyonce having the most grammys ever but zero in the general field is pretty funny.
Kendrick should have won album of the year though. Really felt like they were gearing up with the 50 years of hip hop performance in the middle.

She won song of the year in 2008 for Single Ladies Ah I forgot about that. Well that's something at least. Though her fans know that album of the year is the one that matters most and thus are very mad today. I wonder if a Kendrick win would have gotten the same reaction. Harry is so random though. Were the voters just really horny this year?

They do need a couple changes though. Stop this September to September shit and just have a full calendar year of eligibility. It's stupid that we have to wait till next year for midnights to be nominated. Also, the genre sub categories just come off as consolation prizes. I'd like to see awards like "best guitar riff" "best beat drop" "best vocal high note" and stuff like that. Kinda like how the oscars have prizes for editing, costumes, score, etc... Imagine if they only had "BEST MILITARY ACTION MOVIE" to get Tom Cruise on stage, only to snub him for the real awards later in the night. That's how the grammys are now.

 Re: Grammys 2023
The Grammys make bad picks but what makes it less fun than the Oscars is it's harder to figure out why they did their bad picks. Green Book may not be a better Best Picture winner than Get Out, but it is more honest. They would be more endearing to follow and make fun of if they were just a bunch of obviously old people giving out awards to late career Foo Fighters and Coldplay over pretending to like the young hip artists like Harry.

 Re: Grammys 2023
Harry Styles is the biggest case of the emperor has no clothes that I've ever seen. I get that his record deal with Columbia was something like $100M so he has an endless PR budget, but an AOTY win? For that nothingy bland vacuous lyrically album? It's almost like they're intentionally setting him up to fail. Which he will, big time, sooner rather than later. He has literally no talent at all. A house of cards can only stand for so long. The same thing has happened to vastly more talented people like Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams in the UK. When it happens to Ms Styles it will not be pretty. I give him one more album cycle before the wink-wink "am I gay/bi/straight? " gay-baiting shenanigans, ugly clothing, bland mediocre music, and horrible live vocals catch up to him.

She won song of the year in 2008 for Single Ladies Single Ladies has some really interesting, strange things going on musically, very unusual chords for a pop song. It deserved that win.
