I'm confused, were you expecting an original film? Film's like this are more like seeing a good play, and comparing. It'll always be hindered by 1930s storytelling. Re: Murder on the Orient Express (2017) I liked this a good bit. I enjoy most of Agatha Christie's work too though, so probably a little bias. B.
Although, I can't really imagine someone hating/disliking this (C or lower grade) but loving Death on the Nile. I haven't seen Death on the Nile yet, but seems like a stretch to go from like a D+ here to a B+ for it based on the novels.

But I haven't read the book or seen any previous adaptations so it was new to me. What influence it has had on the genre doesn't really matter to me. I just wanted a good murder mystery and could not get into it. That being said I'll still go see Death on the Nile. The story seems more interesting. Hopefully I'm right.
