Yeah, this year had many unexpected events. First, Kimetsu started out amazingly then JJK surpassed the former. Second, Tokyo Revengers rose and became the manga with highest sales in one year for Kodansha. The peak of Attack on Titans was 15 million copies, which had been the record sales of Kodansha. Third, MHA may be in the 5th position instead of OP.

I guess Gege and Wakui are throwing big parties right now to celebrate their victories. For Gotouge, the author may be a hermit and quietly grows their own grapes in the mountains (Black Clover's author commented that Gotouge gifted him their grapes). Occasionally, they may look up on the sky and see ANN airplanes with Kimetsu No Yaiba characters' faces on them.

Final week, right? Another crazy year, at least the second best ever.

2022 might see a pretty substantial slow-down though. Expecting the top spot(s) to fall back down to pre-2020 levels where the top sellers were around 10-15 million in sales, not these crazy high 25/30 million yearly totals.

Jujutsu Kaisen should have 4 volumes with #18 coming out next month (same weekend as the 0 movie!). Its individual volume sales look like they're falling/stabilizing and might settle around the individual sales for One Piece at the moment, but its backlog will outpace One Piece's, so it should come out ahead next year. But I don't see anything suggesting it'll have another crazy year next year, so I'm thinking ~10-12 million.

Tokyo Revengers is an interesting one. It's slowing down, but pretty gradually, suggesting it might not have hit its peak quite yet. It should have a strong 2022. Not almost 25 million strong again, obviously, but assuming the backlog remains steady and the new volumes sell 1-1.5 million, then 10 million+ is probably doable. It's also going to be helped by heading into 2022 still selling quite well.

One Piece is likely to be back to 4 volumes in 2022 with #101 releasing in just a couple weeks, just 2 weeks after the start of the Oricon year. So it'll probably get back up to ~8/9 million or so, I'd suspect, especially since it has a new movie coming out in August to possibly boost sales a little bit (or at least keep them stable).

Those are my Top 3 predictions for 2022. I know that Spy x Family's anime is releasing next year, but it doesn't have a lot of volumes out right now and new volumes are releasing slowly, so even if the anime takes off, I don't know how high it can really go. Presumably, it'll do better than 2021, but can it double up? Seems a bit unreasonable to me since the past individual volumes have already sold so well. And I'm thinking Chainsaw Man is ruled out, because I figure it'd have some sort of news regarding its part two by now if it was coming out in early/mid-2022. if it even counts as a continuation of the original series, otherwise it has no chance, right?

Haven't seen One-Punch Man here in quite some time, unless I just missed it. I honestly thought it was finished.

EDIT: Just saw that OPM has almost 40 chapters(!) that aren't released in volume format yet. Each volume in the series has 4-6 chapters, so what's taking so long to release so many? 40 chapters is anywhere from 7-10 volumes that could have been released already. Normally, a series is roughly 10-15 chapters ahead of the volume releases, not 40, from most that I read.

Not entirely sure why all those chapters aren't in volume form as I don't follow the series, but yeah, last volume was all the way back in january so almost a full year back.

A bit disappointed that One Piece #101 slipped below 1 million copies (excluding #95, which only had 2 days in its first week), it's the first volume since... #49(!) back in early 2008, over 13 years ago, to miss 1 million in its debut. But it's an *insane* achievement to go on a 13 year streak, and 52 volume run (or 51 if you exclude #95), debuting above 1 million every time. The chances of any future series doing the same, or even coming anywhere close, is nigh impossible.

And that said, Jujutsu Kaisen is really the only series that could match One Piece's debuts this year (2022 Oricon Year), so being in over 100 volumes and almost 25 years in serialization and still being able to beat/match the biggest ongoing newer series is pretty bonkers.

Note: Jujutsu Kaisen #18 is releasing on a Saturday (Dec. 25th), so it'll only have 2-days as its first week and will probably miss a 1 million debut as well, unless the movie (opening the same weekend) gives it a big boost.

Yup there's almost 200k sales between vol 100 and 101 with both 3 days of selling but off course a 100th volume has always a pretty boost. One Piece's still a legend and personnally I wish to read it until the end !
Kaiju No. 8 sold -10% with its 5th volume if we compare to vol. 4 sales. 300k in 3 days is still great but it seems to stabilize since vol 3 and we can even say it decreases a bit and to compare SxF as we often do... SxF's sales even continue to grow until vol 6 if I remember well. Let's see if Kaiju sells better on next week but the sales of manga seems to calm down un overall these past 2 months.

I only just noticed this, so forgive me for the late answer, but info about part 2 should be revealed at jump festa (meaning it will possibly leak sometime later today alongside other WSJ leaks). For it to count as the same series it has to keep the volume count, basically. If it resets to 1 oricon will not consider it the same series regardless.

That said...if no other series majorly breaks out, the top3 treshold likely will sit at below 10M this year, so CSM would need a boost in the order of ~900k per volume to get around that assuming no new releases. So I wouldn't say it has no chance, if anything because we've seen a few crazy boost of varying scale in the past few years, but I'd say it's a pretty low chance for sure. If it can start soon enough to usher in one or two volumes within the oricon year it'd be a big help, but the boost it needs would still be very major, even moreso considering CSM is already quite a big seller on its own, which is great but plays against it in this specific context.

Pretty solid second week for OP #101, assuming it's at ~400,000 (~97% of its weekly sales). Might break 1.5 million after its third week, probably setting it up to reach ~1.8-2 million again.

Personally rooting for One Piece to take the year. 2019-2021 felt so weird without it at the top! Of course, it's more healthy for the industry when other series' beat One Piece, so I truly want anything to do as well or better than it. But I'll cheer One Piece on since it has a fair shot at winning back the yearly crown in 2022 with a likely 4 volumes again and a new movie this summer.

An OP win in 2022 seems almost impossible to me honestly. Considering the difference in backlog there already is between JJK and OP, and while I'm not expecting a mugen train boost for JJK or anything, it will almost certainly get more than OP from its movie, which feels too established for a realistic breakout from a movie by now (Film Gold and Stampede gave very small boosts and very short lived ones at that).

So even if next year has no dark horse breakout performance, JJK will probably top it and lock OP out of the top spot.

JJk sales have definitely not been weak the past few months even with new volume. There is a likely chance that it wins but I could see a case where OP wins as well, it will depend on the amount of boost the movie gives it.

It seems TR vol 25 is starting better than the 24th one with 3 days of selling against 4 even if we think there's like 300k backlogs.
DS is on par with last week and its "little" boost from the anime. I still expect it'll sell better in the next few months but guess it won't be like that during the entire year. (but who knows...)
Can't wait to look at the next 2 weeks and see if there's an significant difference in terms of sales for JJK. It must be top 1 again in 2022 since CsM anime will comes at Fall or Winter maybe ? (and part 2 during the summer...). SxF anime comes in april so we'll really see all its impact during the year but I still think it won't add more than 25-30% by volumes and won't be enought to compete I guess but still hope I'm wrong cuz' I really love that manga ! ^^'

Jjk boost coming up

Will the JJK movie boost the main series though or the volume 0 which is separate? Cause if it's the latter, then it won't really be a good boost. Hoping for the former.
