Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Mar. 22-28)
It's been a while since KnY dropped to 3rd place. Also, yeah, JJK seems to have a slight drop. Is it due to stock issues again? I know it doesn't have any volumes released (probably? I forgot lmao) so that's probably a factor too.
But well, now the race officially starts. My bet goes to KnY.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Mar. 22-28)
Jjk is still releasing new volumes and it's weekly sales are going to stay steady throughout the year but KnY will start to slow down very soon till the anime starts but even then I don't see that boosting manga sales. I belive the effect its other way around and if you have already bought the manga will you rebuy it? I give advantage to Jjk and think it will win the yearly sales handily which will be great for the industry

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Mar. 22-28)
Yup, it might not be as big as 2020, but 2021 would be a great year. JJK has an advantage being weekly, but it will greatly depend if it will keep up the sales even after the anime. Which seems unlikely because of this week's slight drop.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Mar. 22-28)
Pretty sure the decline (and it's quite small anyway) is just due to stock/printing issues (which reportedly affected everything from Shueisha again this week), and just due to the last volume being released 2 months ago now. Demon Slayer would have some "weaker" weeks when it would hover around 1 million each week after the most recent volume had been released ~2 months prior.
And the JJK fanbook sold well enough to get back into the top 10 by series by itself, so it probably got near the top 5 in sales by volume this week. That's a reassuring sign for potential longevity.
Just need to wait and see how it performs for a few more weeks, but with being an ongoing series that'll have at least 3 more volumes released this year, it has a big advantage. And it *should* be #1, as it's a healthy sign for the manga industry to have a newer series outselling an older or concluded series. One Piece dominated the charts for over 10 years, and sales for the industry as a whole were mostly on the decline during most of that period. Some newer series were doing well, but by not having something do better than just well like Jujutsu Kaisen is currently, overall sales were lagging.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Mar. 29 - Apr. 04)
The golden era of KNY seems to end soon. I doubt that KNY future seasons can boost the sales further because the majority of Japanese households already had 23 volumes.
The spring anime season this year is quite boring with a few notable action anime, except My Hero Academia Season 5. If KNY landed this Spring, the anime would get all attention from the public.

It seems that Fumetsu no Anata e will steal the spotlight this season. I've read the manga before and I can guarantee that it's good, and it's by the same author as Koe no Katachi, so that's that.

Yes, the series is amazing but sad. The pace is quite slow, too. Currently, it looks like that the Japanese anime base wants neck-breaking and action-packed series. I hope KNY can protect its crown in the Oricon chart this year, so it can conclude its success with 3 straight years of winning.

Well, technically, Fumetsu no Anata e has action throughout the story so yeah lmao
Same, I hope KnY goes out strong.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Apr. 05-11)
Stumbled upon a good summary of monthly sales for certain manga series in 5ch from Oct 2019-now, decided to translate it. Seemed fitting for the thread. Yellow shading = TV anime broadcast period Bolded = volume release in month Red = Highest sales from Oct 2019 to now

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Apr. 05-11)
Sometime I feel unfair for KNY when I see the rise of JJK. First, in late 2019, bookstores could not get stock of KNY volumes until they sold all Samurai 8 volumes. Second, Shueisha downplayed KNY in both advertisement and initial print copies until it was too late for them to recognize the potential of the series. Third, the publisher rarely updated the circulation number of KNY (2-3 months) and even opposed the victory of KNY over One Piece in 2019. Last, the most outrageous point is that they refused to increase pages for the last two chapters of their cash cow in its peak, so Bone Collector and Time Paradox Ghostwriter could debut. As a result, Shueisha took away the final glorious ending of KNY to clear the path for two axed series 3 months later.
In contrast, Shueisha heavily advertised JJK as the "next Kimetsu" to boost the former's sales. It seems that JJK is not strong enough to build its own reputation without the help of KNY. Additionally, the publisher announced the circulation of JJK frequently (10-14 days), even though the changes were not much. For example, 8 mil to 10 mil, then 36 mil to 40 mil. Therefore, in my opinion, the popularity of JJK is forged while KNY gained its glory naturally.
I wonder why Shueisha hated Gotouge that much. Is this because the author is female/transgender/too shy/ugly? Or because Gotouge refused to do what the publisher wanted to such as stretching the story for decades?

That's all come from TBS (the anime network the anime was broadcast on). Kimetsu was already in its final arc when it blew up too, whereas JJK has at least a few more years left planned. Pretty much everyone was caught off guard by the massive success, not just Shueisha. They were both heavily advertised during their anime seasons, so they pretty much got their success from the same methods. Nothing like "the next Naruto" here.

Or because Gotouge refused to do what the publisher wanted to such as stretching the story for decades? I've been reading this forum for years, and today I made an account just to reply your post. This is the first time I saw a weird post like this on the most peaceful forum I've ever seen. First of all, just like the person above said, the ones who used "Next Kimetsu" are the media, not Shueisha. If you ever care to go to yahoonews even JJK fans hate when the articles called JJK as Next Kimetsu. But it's not only JJK. Even when Act Age's author was arrested, Wide na Show literally called Act Age as Post Kimetsu. When some actresses recommends Chainsawman, the host called it the next Kimetsu. It's literally a buzzword now. > It seems that JJK is not strong enough to build its own reputation without the help of KNY. Lol at this point, I know you're just a bitter KNY fan. JJK was sold better than KNY before the anime. BUT I won't deny KNY's contribution to JJK manga sales or any other manga in general. It's just like Murata (OPM's artist) said KNY makes more people read manga. If you care enough, you can easily find the reason without being bitter. In JJK and CSM (since i only follow those two titles) case, the circulation numbers are always announced along with the reprint restock. Every time they announced that number, it means backlog volumes got reprinted and got new obi. I'm sure we will see JJK announcing new number later on this month, or early May. In fact, those small change is arguably how Shueisha underestimate JJK since that means they always reprints in small numbers. There's no such thing as forged popularity or glory naturally. Lol. It's all the same marketing. And it's so ironic to hear this from KNY fan especially when both JJK and KNY were insulted by 5ch/Japanese netizens with "Gorioshi", "Stealth Marketing", "Only popular cause anime", "Only popular cause Coronavirus" >I wonder why Shueisha hated Gotouge that much. Is this because the author is female/transgender/too shy/ugly? Or because Gotouge refused to do what the publisher wanted to such as stretching the story for decades? LOLWHAT? This is Kpop fan's level of delusional. Anyway you don't have to worry, JJK can get bigger than now but it won't and can't reach KnY's level. It's literally a phenomenon.

Guys stop with the childish fight. Though I agree that Shueisha treated KnY unfairly, cucking it for more than I can count. But I won't say that Shueisha is pushing JJK to be the next KnY (even though they are without saying/announcing it) because they pushed a lot of series, not just JJK, to be the "Golden" era of Jump back in Jan 2021.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Apr. 05-11)
Well Shueisha is a publisher so they will do anything to do more business it's natural for them to do this. All these other metrics are only by fans of either of those series. All business people want is to get more business. No one knew that DS will become this big and I'm sure they didn't knew that Jjk will catch on and do so well, so rather than comparing two completely different series we should be celebrating the fact that manga business is growing and we will be getting more high quality manga soon because of this rise in sales.

JJK number 1 at 500k
Well... It's definitely going on a downhill after the anime It's probably because of no reprints this week. So next week would be the best way to see if it'll continue the downhill road, or will it go at 1mil per week again.

JJK is gaining heavily on DS now. I just do not see how the later will win the year now. The difference will keep shrinking heavily going forward with DS sales going down. On top of this if JjK movie releases in summer the sales will see another uptick.

With at least two more volumes to be released this Oricon year for JJK, I don't see how it doesn't win the year.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Apr. 05-11)
What the hell is up with the arguments up here lol, get a grip people, there's really no need to be this salty over sales. 2021 should very likely go to JJK, it would've been a "wait and see" scenario if it wasn't for the fact that KnY is over and will have no further releases while JJK will have 2 more volumes this year, that alone will almost fully bridge the gap. Only way I could see it not going to JJK is if the second season for KnY (which seems likely to be in fall) boosts heavily and has it comeback in the last few weeks of the year, which is not impossible given what series we're talking about but I'm gonna say unlikely. I'd say odds are heavily favoring JJK for the year as of now. With JJK heavily slowing down as well unless anything major happens KnY will settle around 30M full year while JJK should end up a few mln above it, probably 32-35M range. I don't really see what the problem is, new series rising to the top is a sign of a healthy market imo. Although it doesn't really seem like JJK will manage to get close to KnY's peak, what it's doing is still quite remarkable and a good thing. Jack Sparrow wrote: JJK is gaining heavily on DS now. The race will likely not involve KnY anymore to begin with (although I wouldn't be surprised if they went the kodansha route and released a fullcolor physical edition, which would probably be enough to make it remain in the top10 for 2022 as well), so that's a whole other conversation to be had now.

Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021 (Apr. 05-11)
The comparisons have been done well before our posts so our responses were baed on that. Everyone knew that KnY stopped last year but still many (including yourself) claimed that it will win the year which didn't look possible at the pace of JjK sales well before the year.
Anyways just because we do comparisons does not mean we are being salty but I guess you are wounded because you are big KnY fan. As for the industry growing I told that multiple times before in response to comparisons so I agree its really good for the industry overall. I wonder if there will be two consecutive years as huge as these two in terms of copies sold. I'm sure revenue will eventually catch up.
