Re: Japan Box-Office: Weekend Actuals (12/19-20)
lmao, 22 weekends as number 1 for Titanic ? It's just amazing, I didn't know that but this record I think we can say that it's a record that will never be broken. Titanic was so huge in 1998.
Today, it's looking like 25%-30% drop but it can be better or worse.
Otherwise the giveaways looks nice i thought they were going to budget for 500k unit but if they still plan for 750k maybe they expect to see more people than expected

I just learned something but I don't know if it's true. Apparently it's been since 2004 that a film has not occupied the 1st place of the Japanese box office 10 consecutive weeks. It's true or false ?

It's true or false ? Frozen was #1 for 16 consecutive weeks in terms of revenue (the method reported by Corpse and Hollywood). In terms of admissions, it briefly dropped to #2 one week to Detective Conan in April before reclaiming #1 the following week (and for several more months).

Ok so it must be true and the person who said that on twitter was probably talking about admissions

If they mentioned 2004, then they must be referring to Howl's Moving Castle. That had 9 consecutive weeks #1 in terms of revenue, but I guess it could have had an additional weekend where it was #1 in admissions but #2 in revenue.

Yeah, reservations usually begin 3/4 days ahead of the weekend.
The 4DX showings are pretty much sold out already. Toho Shinjuku has 8(!) 4DX showings for Saturday, and they sold out immediately in about an hour. That includes the 2AM (Sunday morning) showing.

All the theaters equipped for 4DX showings have already sold out for the entire day. (Saturday). Just checked all of them.

Ummm I didn't know the 4dx screen at Yokohama cinema is at 50% capacity, so it's about 98% or 99% now with practically only some wheel chair seats left

Re: Japan Box-Office: Weekend Actuals (12/19-20)
Just thinking about it selling out of all (or 96%+, to get technical) of its 4DX showings for Saturday in less than a day, four days out, is insanity.
The increase it's going to see this upcoming weekend is going to be unprecedented, I feel. Saturday also has several IMAX or standard showings already at 50% full as well.

And thanks for calculating Toho Cinemas this weekend, ymblcza. It's going to be an event we'll likely never see again (a new #1 all-time).

We'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Weekend Actuals (12/19-20)
Looking at this week's numbers, which will begin to trend upward soon as the holidays approach, Demon Slayer is looking likely to achieve 89-consecutive days above ¥50 million (~$500,000), as it has yet to, and is unlikely to have, any days below that mark until January 12th at the earliest.

Maybe Thursday it will drop under that mark but if it doesn't and reaches 89 days above ¥50 million, is that a record ?
