MagicTrick wrote: Hey! After lurking here everyday since the movie came out, I decided to make an account to provide more information. Mostly my expertise lies in ufotable. Regarding the tax evasion, the answer is that nothing really happened. Kondo remains the president of the company. The only thing that changed is that he is no longed credited, for example his name is not in the credits for this movie. If anyone wants to learn more about ufotable, here is a good article about their history which was recently published: https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2020/11/13 ... us-growth/By the way, I think the TV rebroadcast changed its schedule. They are now showing the episodes that were already previously rebroadcasted including episode 19. https://news.line.me/articles/oa-thetvj ... paign=noneAlso, Thank you Corpse for all the work you do! Welcome to the forum! And thanks for the TV broadcast update. It makes sense to show episodes 15-21 again, since they were going to skip from 14 to 22 given they had already aired the special that included episodes 15-21. But now anyone who is new to the series due to the movie's success will be able to see those episodes now in order. I imagine those that are catching up with the broadcasts would have been pretty confused going from episode 14 to 22. This now means, that while episodes 22-26 haven't been scheduled yet, the first two/three will be over the currently empty Dec. 12-13 weekend, and the final two/three episodes will air shortly before Winter Break/New Year. This is probably the better strategy.

Re: Japan Box Office: Biggest Fifth Weekends
Biggest Fifth Weekends/Five Week Totals (2000-):
¥1.550 billion ($14.8 million), -13%, ¥23.23 billion ($221.7 million) - Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2020) *Weekend Prediction* ¥1.069 billion ($8.5 million), +10%, ¥10.52 billion ($83.7 million) - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) ¥890.0 million ($7.9 million), -06%, ¥13.26 billion ($109.3 million) - Spirited Away (2001) ¥888.9 million ($7.4 million), +16%, ¥10.47 billion ($87.7 million) - Bayside Shakedown: Save the Rainbow Bridge! (2003) ¥862.5 million ($8.5 million), -20%, ¥11.16 billion ($108.8 million) - Your Name. (2016) ¥851.2 million ($7.9 million), +13%, ¥9.94 billion ($92.3 million) - Ponyo (2008) ¥841.0 million ($8.2 million), -01%, ¥9.28 billion ($90.7 million) - Frozen (2014) ¥834.5 million ($7.8 million), +47%, ¥7.50 billion ($70.4 million) - Finding Nemo (2003) ¥789.1 million ($7.6 million), -17%, ¥9.86 billion ($94.2 million) - Howl's Moving Castle (2004) ¥782.5 million ($7.3 million), +44%, ¥6.68 billion ($62.7 million) - The Last Samurai (2003) ¥756.6 million ($6.3 million), -18%, ¥9.69 billion ($80.5 million) - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) ¥698.9 million ($6.5 million), -20%, ¥8.56 billion ($79.0 million) - Aladdin (2019) ¥532.7 million ($5.0 million), -17%, ¥9.65 billion ($89.3 million) - Weathering With You (2019) ¥526.7 million ($4.3 million), -23%, ¥8.37 billion ($68.8 million) - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) ¥520.8 million ($4.3 million), -07%, ¥6.95 billion ($57.6 million) - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) ¥518.4 million ($5.6 million), +02%, ¥7.00 billion ($75.3 million) - Avatar (2009) ¥513.8 million ($4.7 million), -34%, ¥8.28 billion ($75.7 million) - Frozen II (2019) ¥505.1 million ($4.5 million), +02%, ¥4.39 billion ($38.9 million) - Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) ¥504.1 million ($4.6 million), +10%, ¥4.55 billion ($42.4 million) - Zootopia (2016)
This remains my prediction after Saturday, so not adjusting it this week. ¥1.5 billion looks like the "low" end, while ¥1.6 billion is probably the high end, so the prediction falls right in that expected range. Can it go over/under that range? Sure, but unlikely by very much at all.

LPLC wrote: Approx $8,1M today, right ? I'm going with just a tad less, $7.9 million, but it could do $8/8.1 million. Toho Cinema Day will lower the average ticket price a bit, so for the first time, Sunday will probably have the higher average ticket price this week. So while it's expected that Sunday will be lower than Saturday in admissions this week, its gross will probably be somewhat close to it.

Almost forgot to mention that it likely surpassed Titanic's admissions on Saturday, its 30th day in release! It took Spirited Away 69 days surpass Titanic's admissions back in 2001.
After tomorrow, it should be up around 17.4 million admissions.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
If on Monday-Friday this upcoming week it continues with the ~20% or so drops as its norm (as it did this past Wed.-Fri.), and sees a drop next weekend around 25/30% or so (since this current weekend was boosted by the giveaway, next weekend should see more of a normal decline), it should be quite close to 19 million admissions after next Sunday. And next Monday is a holiday, so assuming a holiday take similar to Saturday or Sunday, it'll likely surpass Your Name. next Monday as it nears 19.5 million admissions after the holiday, its 39th day in release.
From there, if it hasn't hit 19.5 million already on that Monday, it'll probably only need one or two more days to get there and overtake Tokyo Olympiad. And then I'd expect it to exceed 20 million sometime over the last weekend of November and overtake Frozen before December. Spirited Away will be the target by Christmas.

Can we expect an increase tomorrow compared to Saturday like all other weekends even if this is unlikely because of the gifts ?

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
No, yesterday was Toho Cinema Day (busiest chain in the country) and the first day of the giveaway, so the weekend business will be heavily skewed toward Saturday. It'll probably drop 20/25% versus last Sunday, giving the weekend a drop somewhere between 10-15% in admissions and 1/2% more in gross due to the discounted tickets at Toho Cinemas yesterday.
Definitely don't expect some increase, and don't think it's "bad" if it drops 20/25% versus last Sunday. For one, that's a great hold anyway; and two, that'd be excellent coming off an inflated Saturday.
We're discussing a fifth weekend here that is probably going to be big enough to land it inside the top 15 biggest weekends ever.

Ok ok so a drop between 20% and 15% and a weekend around $13,8M-$14,5M

Fair range, we just need to wait and see what happens today. I'd lean more toward a 15% drop versus a 20% drop though.

Yep. Not a bit boost or anything, it's just that the evening/night shows are stronger than usual on Sundays before a holiday Monday since there's no school/work the next day for most.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
So I just saw a pic on instagram where a apparently the movie is being shown with subs in english & chinese...
Is this a thing? I went to Japan in 2016 and saw One Piece Gold and I watched it in the movie theater in Shinjuku with the big Godzilla head (So a big movie theater... I think?) and I don't think there were any subs available.
My question being, is this something that is new to this movie? How often do anime films get subbed in Japanese cinemas? I know for example that One Piece Gold had a very limited run with english subs back in 2016, but sadly this run had finished when I was there.

In its second or third week, Toho Cinemas began the Barrier-Free showings that provide audio descriptions (typically highlighting important scenes that can be overlooked) and Japanese subtitles that help the visually and/or hearing impaired enjoy the movie as well. This is especially helpful for elderly moviegoers, parents and grandparents as well, who can see popular movies with their family without worry of being confused. And some theaters will even offer special eye-glasses to assist further with these screenings. This service has been sparsely used, typically reserved for critically-acclaimed films that compete for awards (popular among the elderly), as it requires them (Sumitomo Corporation) to create a new version of the film, essentially. It's not as simple as turning subtitles on or off, so it's a big deal that Demon Slayer got the treatment. And very jealous of you going to THAT theater! I don't know if it's bigger than the Toho Cinema in Umeda, but it is the busiest theater in the entire country and is open 20 hours each day over the weekends when a big film is playing.

English/Chinese subtitles could also be for a Hong-Kong release I think?

Yeah I'm 100% sure it said subs: english/chinese and I thought it was strange and that's why I posted here, sadly I can't find the post anymore, but now that I think about it maybe it was from some other country that's screening it right now.
Cool! I didn't know that about the movie theater, and yeah back then OP: Gold had basically sold out for the entire day (I went there like at 3 pm, and had to buy tickets for the 9 pm screening... which led me to miss the last train to Asakusa where I was staying.. iirc I could get into a certain train but then the service stopped so I had to walk like 5 kms but meh it was nice.)
Also they had chopper flavored popcorn so I bought some lol.
Edit: as Rouk said, that might be it.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Sunday right now is, surprisingly, on par with yesterday and down under 20% versus last Sunday.
But remember that Sunday evenings/nights are much slower than Saturday evenings/nights, so even if it would stay on par with yesterday, or even pull ahead at some point in the afternoon, don't expect it to match or beat it. It's not expected to match yesterday though, given Saturday had an advantage this week, but it might come closer than expected based on the morning showings. We'll see. A sub-20% drop versus last Sunday is looking quite doable at this stage, too.

Edit: as Rouk said, that might be it. Do you mean Cotton-Candy flavor? (Chopper flavor would be...reindeer, yes? lol). Makes sense that they've had English-subtitles for their Japanese films, at least the bigger ones and especially those with overseas appeal, since Shinjuku is a busy tourist location as well. Sounds like a nice trip.

Sounds like a nice trip. iirc it was being advertised as "Chopper flavor", it was literally normal popcorn but they also gave you a pink powder which you'd then put on your popcorn bucket.. As for the flavor, I don't really remember to be honest haha, but the powder did change the flavor a bit. I googled it but can't seem to find it, but I did find these special golden popcorn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vL2qba ... ionproject And yeah it was a great tip if you ever have questions about planning a trip to Tokyo send me a PM, my trip was on the cheaper side of things haha but I could give you a few tips and stuff

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Japanese theaters can go all out in promoting certain movies with special foods, beverages, giveaways, and much more. They'll even decorate the theater itself in theme with certain movies, from setting up special entrances in the theaters (or leading into the auditorium), lining the lobby/halls with décor, and sometimes go even a step further and will give the bathrooms special treatment, too! In Demon Slayer's case, some of the bathrooms were decorated with wisteria flowers along the ceiling. A trip to Japan is probably quite some time away, but I will definitely go at some point.
