Which song is that? I am both? I am generally a good person but I will cross the line if it can benefit me or my family.

Guess today a saint would be too hard / impossible.

Anyway, even today - just being a good person takes some effort. For you to go out of your way and help others, inconvience yourself, etc. - as lots of people don't do anything except when it is only for themselves.
I think to show yourself as a good person you have to make a real effort in helping others. And not for yourself or for gain.
