 Re: Oscars 2020 - LIVE
The momentum was certainly there. Although I was always cheering for QT and Once - Parasite winning is a big deal and easily the best BP winner of the decade.

 Re: Oscars 2020 - LIVE
This is a really big deal. I thought for sure 1917 would be the one to win.
This is like Shakespeare in Love winning over SPR but more people are happy l

 Re: Oscars 2020 - LIVE
This is better than Roma. I think this year was just more competitive so harder to sneak in a nom.

This is like Shakespeare in Love winning over SPR but more people are happy l Oh shut up. 1917 wasn't even the 5th best film of the year. The fact it won VFX is a fucking TRAGEDY

1917 is ok. A solid drama. Like 25th of the year.

I agree 1917 is a great film that deserves to be seen on big screen but Parasite is just AMAZING, there are very few movies like Parasite that come out now.

Great show the best presentation they’ve done in a long time to go along with their best picture to win in a very long time.

Eminem’s performance was awesome and even more so because he didn’t perform the year he won for stupid reasons.

 Re: Oscars 2020 - LIVE
This was easily the most I have enjoyed the Oscars in years despite all the randomness with the exception of Eminem performing which was just all kinds of awesome. I'm mostly surprised The Irishmen didn't win anything though, but that just goes to show you how competitive 2019 was for movies.

Yep corrected Yeah I probably should have kept reading before responding but I missed out on the live discussion and had to make up for it somehow. It’s crazy he didn’t win in 2008. He did No Country For Old Men and Assassination of Jesse James! Though it is hard to argue with Elsit’s work in There Will Be Blood. Diving Bell and the Butterfly was also nominated - what a stacked year 2007 was.

 Re: Oscars 2020 - LIVE
So...are we done with the "foreign film" category now? I mean, why bother if they're also eligible for the "mains" as well? If all those movies this year were great enough to be nominated for best foreign film, why was only one "good enough" to *also* be a best picture nominee? I'm sure lots of people are very happy, but...eh. I guess I'm a little lost why America has to include *everywhere* for contention in the main categories. Again--isn't that the point of the foreign language category? I just find this a bit ridiculous Can a movie now be nominated for best picture *and* best documentary? What about best picture and best short film? I've seen quite a few short films that fired on cylinders and stuck the landing--why don't they get to play in the big boy sandbox, too? I'm not saying it isn't a great movie, by the way--simply that it shouldn't be competing in the "main" categories of English speaking films. Again, if they want this to be the case going forward then do away with the foreign film category--having both is moronic. Also, no breaking news here, but Leslie Jones is a dipshit

 Re: Oscars 2020 - LIVE
just cause it HAPPENED ONCE in 92 FUCKING YEARS DOES NOT MEAN THEY'RE DONE WITH IT!! International 'foreign' feature film is still an important AND MUCH NEEDED category to acknowledge great films outside of Hollywood.
