February 14-17 predictions
Welp. I think Sonic is gonna open well.
Sonic - 43 (4-day) Fantasy Island - 15 (4-day) The Photograph - 10 (4-day) Downhill - I've never seen a trailer for this...
Hopefully Birds has a solid hold.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Sonic PS looks good to me. Its gonna break out. I would say 50m over 4 days. Fantasy island does not even have much of previews(only 4 shows at AMC and none at cinemark). Dont see it doing well.

Yeah I think Sonic is breaking out big time. I wouldn't be surprised if it did closer to $50M over the three day portion alone and ended up closer to $60M over the entire 4-Day weekend.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Well the market is still open for a breakout and the goodwill from design change plus family appeal makes it look like Sonic will benefit hugely

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Paramount has done a very good job marketing Sonic after the design change. I think it will breakout also. 50m 4 day looks real good now.

The Photograph is being underestimated. I think it should do around 20 Million 4-Day.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Yeah with BoP doing muted numbers a much bigger Sonic opening feels weird.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
My kids have been wanting to see Sonic for a while now and they had no idea who he was (I barely cared and I grew up in the Sonic era). The online goodwill is there and the market is ripe for it. I think $50m 4-day is a good bet but even $40m 4-day would still be very good.
At $50m 4-day it will end up somewhere near Detective Pikachu total.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Sonic’s legs probably depend on how many kids see it without knowing who he is. If a lot do it could play more like a family movie than a video game movie.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Yes good point. I think its a bit of both but let's see which way it leans. It could play more like an Alvin & the Chipmunks than a Pikachu.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
I feel Sonic will play really well with older audiences as well as families though, especially those who grew up during the 80's and 90's. With the massive success of BBFL it really does seem as if 90's nostalgia is a thing again.

My 6-screen theater is giving this two of them! It’s topping Detective Pikachu.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Also photograph also has good OD PS. I would say 4-day > 20m at this point. Fantasy Island does not have thursday release(except 3 AMC theaters I saw !!!). that is the only one which looks like underperforming.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Sonic reviews are good too. Another case of a studio hiding good press for some reason but I don’t think it will matter as much as last week.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
At least Sonic was already looking like it was going to do killer before reviews. Harley Quinn could have used those early reviews.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
Yeah Sonic is going to be BIG as I expected, but it's also looking like I really underestimated The Photograph as well. Based on Keyser Soze's PS data it looks like it could very well pull an upset over Fantasy Island over the weekend which is something I definitely wasn't expecting. That's what you fucking get when you hide reviews.

Re: February 14-17 predictions
The 9pm Sonic previews here had a healthy scattering of middle age people and a few senior citizens? Trying to figure that out. No kids, as expected on a school night.
