Quote:
Jojo Rabbit is a 2019 American satirical black comedy film written and directed by Taika Waititi and based on Christine Leunens's book Caging Skies.[5][6][7] Roman Griffin Davis portrays the title character, a Hitler Youth who finds out his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. The film also stars Waititi, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, and Sam Rockwell.

The film had its world premiere at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2019, where it won the People's Choice Award.[8] It is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States and New Zealand on October 18, 2019.

It's not perfect and tonally a little all over the place, but the performances are lovely across the board especially from Johansson and Davis, who is wonderful. The scene where
Spoiler: show
Jojo finds his mother
is a punch to the gut.

I did not expect to totally love this but I did. It's sweet and heartbreaking. The kid playing Jojo is phenomenal.

A very strong movie that is very funny, but still emotionally heavy enough to not take away from the horrific events it is depicting. It doesn't concern itself too much with how we got here (both in the past and present), the "I Want To Hold Your Hand" montage more than takes care of that, but rather what the fanatics see as their world is crumbling around them. Most of the adults in this movie have soured on Hitler so its really only the brainwashed children who still believe. Which again is as tragic as it is funny.

Taika is fucking hilarious as fake Hitler. His best friend with the glasses is very funny too. ScarJo and Rockwell do well enough for their ultimate fates to hit really hard. My favorite line - "I wanted dogs to protect the city, not actual German Shepherds!"

That shoe scene took my heart and stomped on it.
Wonderful movie. Every actor was great. Even Rebel Wilson was good lol.
Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo and Archie Yates as Yorki were the best part of the movie for me. Also ScarJo has never been better.
We are lucky to have such amazing director/writer/performer as Taika Waititi

A very sweet and charming little movie. Fantastic performances from all the young actors in this, especially Roman Griffin Davis and Thomasin McKenzie. Scarlett Johansson was pretty great in this too and Takia was an awesome choice for imaginary Hitler, but holy shit did that shoe scene get me. I definitely wasn't expecting that at all, but it was really effective.

This flew past my expectations. It's absolutely hilarious and heartwarming with great performances across the board. Roman Griffin Davis gives my favorite lead actor performance of the year. Thomasin McKenzie is wonderful and I am surprised she wasn't mentioned at all this awards season. Archie Yates is a total scene-stealer. Scarlet was lovely and I prefer her here over Marriage Story. Really loved this movie and that ending was perfection.

The irreverence of first 15 minutes don’t really make sense with the rest of the movie, but once the storyline with McKenzie’s character starts, it’s great. The key is Roman Griffin Davis who is not just good for a child actor but phenomenal, I might have nominated him for Best Actor even in this field honestly. Him and McKenzie have great chemistry. ScarJo also gives one of her best performances and makes the emotional weight of what happens to her even more affecting. Rockwell is also pretty terrific mixing comedy with emotion, and Archie Yates is the definition of scene stealing greatness. I never really liked fake Hitler, but I’m not sure you’re supposed to with JoJo eventually turning on him. I was impressed by Taika’s directing and editing, it really flowed together well. Overall really nice film. Now I wish it Green Book-ed it to BP instead of 1917.

I still think Parasite takes Picture but if not I'd rather this win than 1917.

Excellent film, great humor, good performances. It's not quite as gripping as Life Is Beautiful, a film I liken it to about finding some humor in times of war. Still it has its share of strong dramatic moments and doubles down on the satire and with that it becomes one of the best films of 2019, one that I'm pretty late to watch actually. Glad I got to it, Waititi is a talent and the kid actor does really well carrying the film too.
