Re: Democratic Primary 2020
They could literally commission affordable/free housing for poor/homeless people. They could pay off ALL medical/student debt. They could fix Flint's water crisis, for fucks sake.
Nothing. They've done shit. They do as little as possible to keep their name relevant.
And yes, I'm aware being "worth" $100 billion doesn't mean they have that in a bank account, but they have access to billions of dollars, whether it be selling a stock or two, cashing out on some investments, etc.
I see clients on a daily basis with millions of dollars in their accounts, just sitting there. These people just rack up their credit card debt and mortgage debt, just to get tax breaks and make more money.

You have no idea what would become of their companies and the millions of people impacted by then if they did what you're suggesting.

Nothing. Do you know how much money they have? A billion dollars is a drop in the bucket, and nobody is asking them for a billion dollars.
Why the fuck do you care about their money? They treat their employees like shit.

Rich people... shouldn't be able to buy politicians? Shouldn't be able to buy policies? Shouldn't be able to buy out of trouble. Why the fuck do you worship rich fucks so much?

Not sure why there is such an unwillingness to make the rich pay their fair share these days -- I assume it's just years of being brainwashed by propaganda

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
I don't think there is an unwillingness per se, I can imagine in most people's mind it goes like, if I was rich I'd not want others to decide what to do with my money either.
And how to define "fair share"...doesn't fair share mean communism?

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
No. Fair share means a fair percentage of their money. They make more money, they should pay more taxes. Legitimately pay more taxes. The only people who don't pay taxes are the people rich enough to buy their way around them.

Chippy wrote: Rich people... shouldn't be able to buy politicians? Shouldn't be able to buy policies? Shouldn't be able to buy out of trouble. Why the fuck do you worship rich fucks so much? This is a completely different point than the one you were just making. I agree with all of it but would note - given how angry you seem to be about it - that you're likely greatly exaggerating the effect that ANY of those things has on your life or the lives of the masses. You're upset about it on principle alone despite's relatively muted effects which is very dumb. Groucho wrote: It amazes me how people can still worship their oppressors. Not sure why there is such an unwillingness to make the rich pay their fair share these days -- I assume it's just years of being brainwashed by propaganda You guys are communicating 2 extremely different points that need to be articulated better. Saying they should "Pay their fair share" is totally different from saying they "haven't positively impacted shit" or should 1) collectively paying off all student loans, 2) building insane amounts of free housing for all homeless people; just because its affecting some people. Who out there is saying the rich and successful shouldn't pay their fair share? Unless you're insinuating that their "fair" share is actually supporting socialism? Which leads to... Chippy wrote: No. Fair share means a fair percentage of their money. They make more money, they should pay more taxes. Legitimately pay more taxes. The only people who don't pay taxes are the people rich enough to buy their way around them. You were asked to define "fair share" and responded with a super-vague "more money". No. Shit. How MUCH money and for WHAT cause is what is actually being debated and there seems to be no answer to the claim that telling billionaires to destabilize their companies (which employ millions of money-spending taxpayers) to support a new healthcare deal that many of those same people do not want. I'd rather pour the money into insane cancer research. Or aggressive climate change combating technology. Not more healthcare in a system that works very well for a large majority of people. Or more houses for people who largely have habits that make them uninhabitable. The Uber-Dems always so good at spending other people's money...

Wealth is relative though. If you make $20K a year and lose 10%, it will make a significant impact on your life. If you make $100M and lose 10% you might not even notice.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Debate tonight. I'm working the next two nights, so I won't see anything but headline highlights til Sat or Sun. Predictions?
1. Low ratings. Who scheduled this for opening night of Star Wars anyway?
2. Obviously the House impeachment will get plenty of time. I wonder though if Tulsi Gabbard's 'present' vote will be brought up by the moderators and/or candidates. If it's a question asked, I expect similar bashing as she's received since the vote. If it's not asked though, I don't think it would be wise to give it attention. Pete might not be able too resist though. I also wonder if anyone, having seen her thought process in her statement afterward, might back her up...
3. I expect some discussion about gun violence with the recent happenings.
4. Bashing Trump for his despicable remarks at his Mich rally last night. I don't get people who can support a person who does that.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Amy Klobuchar had an excellent night. She's had top performances the past two or three debates, but now with fewer candidates on stage, she got to shine more. Any moderates not committed to Biden or Buttigieg could certainly switch to her before the primaries begin. And she has been climbing in Iowa as well in recent weeks, and Iowa is known for late surges.
I don't really expect her to breakthrough and pull off a surprise win or Top 3 showing in Iowa, but I would like her to. And I still consider her as, probably, the strongest candidate among the nominees. She's that perfect middle-ground between the Biden/Buttigeig and Sanders/Warren that can bring in supporters from both camps. Not to mention being more than capable of swaying a few Republicans voters, too.

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Hilarious this looks like it will come down to Biden (77) vs Sanders (78). If Biden got in he would probably just not do a lot for 4 years and then not run in 2024. I guess it’s a way to get out of Trump. If Sanders got in by some miracle, he would be lucky to get to the next election as Wall Street might have to move on to plan B aka make it look like a heart attack

Re: Democratic Primary 2020
Obama released his 35 favorite songs of the year. It’s mostly trying-to-be-cool Dad picks. But it made me think: what would Biden, Sanders, or Warren’s favorite songs of the year be? I think we can assume they could not even name 5, let alone 35, songs that came out in the last year. Relating to the common person obviously isn’t the only important part of politics, but I think Obama nailed that more than anyone else I’ve been alive to see. The complete lack of relatability is arguably what cost Hilary most and it will probably be the downfall of Joe Biden too.

I guess it also means with Biden having the closest ties to Obama it gives him the best edge.

Warren loving Ballers feels more authentic than any of Obama’s picks though, tbh
