Excel wrote: This needed to be 2 movies. I actually agree with you excel. With something like Infinity War there was an urgency to see what would happen next. At the end of Last Jedi... not so much. Had this film set up a last film I think that would help both characterization and anticipation but oh well.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
The Force Awakens is not a film I’m a fan of, but this trilogy needed to build on what it set up to be thematically satisfying. TLJ was better as a movie IMO, but did little to advance what was set up in TFA. That’s the big issue with this trilogy is it’s gonna feel so disjointed by the end. It needed a story treatment that was going to be stuck to from the beginning.

The show count is just 5837. I think 200m OW will happen. But dont see it hitting SW8 OW.

I hope it does not end up rotten. That would be worst reviewed JJ movie ever. Still will go to the movie with open mind. I even enjoyed Trek 2.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
The big problem is change in audience tastes from the 1980s until now. By modern standard, the character development and arcs in the OT are mostly horrible aside from Luke and Vader. Todays audiences were never going to be impressed by what is basically a remake

I'd guess a 70% RT score. Though critics loved TLJ, and if this just reverses everything, I think critics may just dump on it. (disney would deserve that)

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
This is exactly what happens when you don't properly develop your characters over your three movie trilogy. As much as I have liked Rey, Finn and Poe there's a reason why after all of this is over that they won't be considered as memorable characters, and its because of how they have structured this new trilogy. I mean I don't even think we have gotten proper villains in this franchise considering even less has been done with Kylo, TFO and Snoke. Their are so many ways they could have avoided this too if they just took their time and possibly even stretched it to 4 movies like what Feige/ MCU did with both IW and Endgame. Endgame was a movie filled with a lot of fan service too, but people didn't really complain about it, because it actually felt earned which just isn't the case here, although having 20 something movies to help build up your characters goes a long way as well.

Rey and Kylo have been fleshed out more than any OT character outside of Luke.

If the film gets panned, JJ will be fine and go on to make hits for WB.
But Chris Terrio might be done. He wrote the Martha scene in BvS and wrote Justice League. If this is a flop, he might not get to touch a big budget franchise ever again.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
What's sad is that for most people, they didn't fuck up the first 2 films as films on their own. They just rushed to an ending for the sake of ending it.
We'll see how it is but they really needed to make this 2 movies.

Justice League's theatrical cut was primarily Whedon but *shrug* I have a feeling reception is gonna be mixed. But I guess let's see how reviews are.

I really don't see that type of drop. 85-95. Endgame was a mess or gloriousness and still was the franchise peak. I don't think it will alienate TLJ viewers. Which I still don't understand. I loved both TFA and TLJ. If this film seems to be going in the TDKR, I think it'll do great.

Just came back from the 11.30am showing*... In my opinon - and I watched all SW movies in theaters (yes, I'm THAT old) - it delivers and is the best movie of the third trilogy...
*screenings started at 10:00am Wednesday morning in Germany....

I sure hope so... Legs should be better than SW8, but I still doubt a powerful opening...
