Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Star Wars carries on its mediocrity.
What exactly is enticing about this movie?
Besides Donnie Yen, not a single cast member is memorable, with Diego Luna giving a one note aberration of a performance, worthy of charisma black holes Sam Worthington and other white pretty boys that have speckled us over the years.
The premise is a non-starter, as is the usual downfall for prequels. No one really gives a damn about second rate characters fashioned out of a greedy executive's whim to print money out of inconsequential plot points. I already made it clear this was a joke when it was first announced, and it more than lived up to its name. What is interesting is that audiences lapped up the piss poor excuse of a story, just as they have with Star Wars for the last 20 years. Clearly, quality is not important, as it is to be a man child. No wonder Trump is leader. He fits the perfect model of modern America.
What next? Anything!
Watch for 2 hours how Harrison Ford and a digitally animated Carrie Fisher make and raise a brooding Kylo Ren.
or watch Yoda meditate for 3 hours in the jungles of whatever the fuck back in Episode 5 or 6.
Creatively bankrupt and long will it continue.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
This has surprisingly good replay value. Really liked it more after watching the DVD. Must have been really tired in the theater. It is a bit slow in the middle, but it's not boring. Definitely like it more than TFA.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
This was OK. It really got going in the final act, but prior I wasn't fully engaged. Some pretty cool moments here and there, and enjoyable characters. But I liked TFA much, much more.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
It was a fine action movie but it made me appreciate The Force Awakens in retrospect. TFA is just more lifelike and there's nothing close emotional wise to scenes like Ren killing Han or the fight between Rey and him in this. I echo the disappointment from some that the score was always on the verge of going full Star Wars theme but never went there. The most memorable characters were the blind guy and the robot. Honestly I would rather take any of the prequels over this. They are more memorable by far.
The 3rd act was the best but some stuff really confused me. How did Jyn and Cassian end up on a beach all of a sudden when the death star hit them, weren't they on a high collapsing building? I didn't catch why the two ships crashed into each other or how that was on purpose in regards to blowing up the shield. It's also confusing to me how the Rebel fleet goes all out to get the plans and then once they get them, it ends up going to Leia (who nobody but Jimmy Smits knows is important?) instead of back to rebel HQ?

The fish admiral guy called in one of his ramming ships to push the big ship into the other big ship. they collided and fell into the forcefield generator

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
It's good but slow in the middle. It does seem like a lot of effort was put into this one. Krennic is a good villain. The best scenes are the ones with him, Tarkin and Darth Vader.

1) This thread makes me miss a lot of former members.
2) Rogue One is the best prequel. D+ confirms it. It actually might be the all time best prequel. Not the highest bar, but still...

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Yep I still haven't had the need to re-watch this since it first came out. Also, I know they are quite different, but after only seeing 3 episodes of The Mandalorian I really do wish this film was more like that show. That show has all the personality, heart and most of all likable characters that this movie was severely lacking IMO. It's kind of cool how both also had badass droids though with K-2SO and IG-11. Looking back on it that damn Vader scene was way overhyped too.
