 Re: Thursday numbers
8.5m for Frozen 2. Sales weren't looking as robust in my area as I'd thought so not surprised it's not higher than 10m. Let's see how it does tonight. This is gonna do big business through next weekend so nothing alarming.

 Re: Thursday numbers
That's very good for Frozen 2. This is a different beast but last November's Grinch did 2.2 on its way to a 70 Million opening.

 Re: Thursday numbers
It’s the fourth highest animated preview and the others were all in June, it should minimum match Finding Dory 135 OW with that.
I expect strong holds this week and next weekend, but it’s not good enough of a movie not to collapse post Thanksgiving. And Jumanji will hurt its legs further.

 Re: Thursday numbers
So half of Beauty and the Beast? Meh. We’ll see how it recovers, but I’m no longer confident it will top the first movie. Weird that this isn’t a bigger deal.

 Re: Thursday numbers
If it does less than $250m by the end of next weekend than we can say it did less than expected. I was expecting upfront demand but I guess the gross will be more spread out. Presales were strongest for Saturday.

A heavily hyped family movie that also massively appealed to the YA crowd that powered franchises like Potter was exactly what Frozen 2 was supposed to be. This low ass preview number suggests that it really is just a franchise for younglings after all though. So yes, it will recover and probably make around $115M this weekend and another $100M+ during the 5-day Thanksgiving weekend, but drop pretty hard after that for a few weeks until Christmas comes around. Without the cultural icon status or making people need to see it multiple times, I don't see it having the legs to get to ~$420Mish. If you were expecting Fro2 to land around there then this preview is fine, for those of us expecting more it is disappointing. I think that's fair.

Insiders at BOT saying $43m for true Friday so approx 51.5m Friday. Sounds good to me, hopefully it goes up.

He way overestimated few movies with his early projections. Let us wait until evening before going for any number. That said its PS was insanely frontloaded. Even 2 days back I thought double digit previews will happen. But things tapered off. In a way its behaving like a PS heavy female movie. But PS for today and tomorrow are great and so let us see how things go.

 Re: Thursday numbers
It wasn't marketed as something with a rush factor. No singing in the teasers, mostly just Elsa training her ice powers (in other words, you'll see it just cuz Elsa's in it).
It will be interesting to see the holds if it doesn't have a viral song in it.

 Re: Thursday numbers
Some of you guys overestimate the appeal of Frozen among adults (and also boys). This is not a film that will have a monster preview number. It has a 10 day span to make tons of $$$ and it will. From there how big it will be depends on WOM and competition. Jumanji/Star Wars/Spies are much bigger competition than what 2013 had to offer.
This film is doing fine.

 Re: Thursday numbers
I agree this number really doesn't tell much. It's doing great among its target audience. The real interesting numbers will be after 10 days.

As I said earlier, ignore very early projections. According to him F2 OD is Infinity Wars level PS heavy. It was similar yesterday and will be true tomorrow as well where PS is 50% higher than today.

 Re: Thursday numbers
Hmmm in a way I'm not surprised. It does feel like they waited a taaad too long. Like, the kids who were 10 when the first came out are now 16. Your tastes and interests change completely in that time.

 Re: Thursday numbers
Man this is going end up way under my prediction either way. I really didn't think this would do that much less than Incredibles 2 considering the level of goodwill behind the first Frozen, but maybe it's a combination of things like the lack of a hook factor from the trailers or it opening a week before Thanksgiving. I guess all we can hope for now is a stellar second weekend hold which could definitely happen, but it's still not going to reach it's true potential IMO.

 Re: Thursday numbers
Could the release of Disney+ have hampered this? Some parents may have chosen to stay at home knowing that Disney now has a streaming service where all its movies will be on guaranteed in the near future.

 Re: Thursday numbers
A likely 130m+ shouldn't be taken as a failure lol but I was expecting mammoth numbers upfront. I've heard several people at work say their children have grown out of Frozen and even heard a group of teenage girls at the theater while getting tickets to Knives Out sneer at someone who suggested to watch it saying it's for children, eye roll.
A- Cinemascore for Frozen. I guess we'll see if that means anything.

 Re: Thursday numbers
I don't see this having any staying power like the first one. There is no catchy songs or anthems like "let it go" that brought kids in over and over again years ago.
