Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Hi Mark
Now that we are almost 3/4 of the way through the year, what is your prediction for the total German cinema admissions for 2019?
Cheers

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Admissions are currently ahead by 15 % compared to last year and I expect an increase somewhere between 10-15 % for the whole year - so somewhere between 116m-121m admissions...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Biggest DC openings of all-time (including previews):
1) 1,051,464 THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 2) 900,000 JOKER 3) 868,763 THE DARK KNIGHT
JOKER obviously still an estimate judging on Thursday-Saturday sales...

Weekend 41/19
http://www.insidekino.com/DTop10/19/DTop19OKT10.htmJOKER delivers - second biggest DC opening - third biggest opening of the year - 9th biggest October opening of all-time - 14th biggest opening of all-time rated "16" Don't forget: These are all admissions ranking - it's much more difficult to achieve all-time rankings in admissions and much easier to do so in box office...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Yesterday JOKER passed THE DARK KNIGHT (2.86m admissions), within a week or so JOKER will pass THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (3.25m) to become the biggest DC movie in 40 years (1979's SUPERMAN is still far ahead with 4.15m admissions)

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Similar occurrence in Japan. Joker surpassed Batman to become DC's highest grossing film in 30 years. No admissions are available for Batman, but Joker is doing well enough (on track for 3.5 million admissions) that it'll also claim the DC admissions record anyway since Batman would "only" be at 2.6 million admissions using 1989's average ticket price.

mark66 wrote: How did SUPERMAN do in Japan? I don't have any data for it. As you probably know, it's hard to find revenue and admissions (though admissions are a little easier) before 1980 from Japan for any film that wasn't a huge success. With that said, it should be safe to assume it wasn't too big.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
It must have been bigger than SUPERMAN II though (2.55b Yen)... In Germany S1 was three times bigger than S2... For those who want to know: This is how DC fared in Germany: http://www.insidekino.com/SP/SPOTH/SPDC.htm

How is Parasite's performance thus far, for a foreign language/Asian film? It seems pretty impressive.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
It is indeed very impressive. I can't think of any other South Korean film to reach these kind of numbers...
The movie is dubbed into German though (99 % of movies are being dubbed)...
Most successful Asian live action movie in the last 20 years should be CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON with 864,762 admissions, while the biggest animated movie should be POKÈMON with 3,222,452 admissions...
I hope, I haven't missed a movie...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
If FROZEN II and SW9 deliver as expected, 2019 will see 6 movies above the 4m admissions mark compared to none in 2018... Blockbuster = 3m admissions...
