Re: Once popular actors/actresses whose careers went nowhere
There’s so much competition for the roles that Ryan would be appropriate for. Unfortunately she’s probably getting the call after a bunch of people pass.

Re: Once popular actors/actresses whose careers went nowhere
I'll also throw Thomas Jane in there. I love the guy as an actor and Punisher seemed like his moment but it just didn't happen. I loved Hung and him in roles like 61 and even smaller like Boogie Nights. I can't say he was ever popular though but just seeing him The Predator, just a waste of talent. I mean he was this close to Duke in GIJOE or even Captain America (which would have course been gravy)

He was in 1922 recently, which is a very good film. Not everyone can be Brad Pitt. I think he probably enjoys playing more interesting roles in smaller films.

Re: Once popular actors/actresses whose careers went nowhere
I see Thomas Jane a lot, and it's usually on the bubble of mainstream, so I don't think he quite qualifies. He's never had a moment where he was super popular either. I think he's as popular now as he's ever been.

Re: Once popular actors/actresses whose careers went nowhere
Jane's issue is that his substance abuse problems really got out of control when he should have been breaking out. That probably impacted the quality of work he was offered over time. He's talked about it being so bad that he attempted suicide in the late 00's.
You've gotta think he's got a career-defining / Award worthy performance in him with all that pain. Hopefully he gets the chance one day. No reason he couldn't pull a Downey Jr. or Affleck, etc.

Jai Courtney's career has finally gone nowhere, damn, that took way too long.

If Jon Bernthal wasn't American, he'd have been dropped by now. I have no idea why he still gets cast in stuff. He's a henchman or thug role at best.

Re: Once popular actors/actresses whose careers went nowhere
Predicting it will soon be over for:
Felicity Jones - Doesn't have a unique look or personality, the pool of British actresses to tap for period pieces etc. is always deep. She is good looking but so are a million actresses. She is easy to replace.
Chloe Grace Moretz - She's been on borrowed time for a while, I think similarity to Kiernan Shipka will be what ends her as the only reason I can think of why CGM gets so many lead roles is they want a character who looks like that. Similar to how Mia Wasikowska career is on life support since Alice in Wonderland 2 since Saoirse Ronan corners the market on that type of role now

I never thought much of him after seeing him in Wolf of Wall Street (thug role) and Fury (creep) but he's grown on me. He works in the right part. But agree - he's getting a lot more work than you'd expect. Connections.

stuffp wrote: Claire Forlani That's a good one actually. She was supposed to be the next big thing after Meet Joe Black. But that film never really took off (though it opened well enough thanks to The Phantom Menace teaser).

Wasn't she supposed to be in Terminator 3 originally? I thought there was a film with Arnold where she was lined up to star with, but I've just looked at her filmography and don't see any Arnie movie.

Sofia Bush was in the role for about a month before that recast her with Danes.
I think I'd like to add James Marsden to the list. I've always liked him but he never really took off. I mean Cyclops should have been the leader, but Jackman completely overshadowed the rest of the cast, then Superman Returns, but he pops up and is always likeable. Sonic looks like yet another mainstream attempt after 7 years that will do nothing for him, considering the problems that film has had.

He's done ok I think for being wooden, he has been in some decent TV roles like Westworld and Dead to Me recently. I feel like he is a character actor who specializes in playing dumb hot guys. His Westworld character was perfect for him as his robot role was like a take on how Hollywood uses him
