Post Missouri Man Spits on Jane Fonda
Yahoo! News wrote:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man spit tobacco juice into the face of actress Jane Fonda after waiting in line to have her sign her new book, police said.

The man ran off but was quickly caught by police Tuesday night and charged with disorderly conduct.

Fonda has been on tour and doing interviews to promote her just-published memoir, "My Life So Far." The thrice-married, two-time Academy Award winner covers a wide array of topics, including her 1972 visit to Hanoi to protest the Vietnam War, during which she was photographed on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun. She has apologized for that photo, but not for opposing the war.

Capt. Rich Lockhart of the Kansas City Police Department said that although Fonda did not want to press charges against Michael A. Smith, 54, of Kansas City, he was arrested on a municipal charge of disorderly conduct after off-duty officers caught him just outside Unity Temple, where Fonda was signing books.

Lockhart said Smith was released on bond late Tuesday night and is due to appear in municipal court on May 27.

Smith, a Vietnam veteran, told The Kansas City Star on Wednesday that Fonda was a "traitor" and that her protests against the war were unforgivable. He said he normally does not chew tobacco but did so Tuesday solely to spit juice on the actress.

"I consider it a debt of honor," he told The Star for a story on its Web site, kansascity.com. "She spit in our faces for 37 years. It was absolutely worth it. There are a lot of veterans who would love to do what I did."

Fonda drew a crowd of about 900 for her appearance, said Vivian Jennings, whose Rainy Day Books of suburban Fairway, Kan., sponsored the event at Unity Temple in Kansas City. Fonda, 67, spoke for about 15 minutes, answered questions for another 15, then began signing copies of her book.

FULL STORY!

Many vietnam vets see her as a traitor, including my father, maybe he was one of those vets that was spat on the face by hippies when he returned from the war and now he got sweet revenge,Though IMO talking to her and telling her she was a traitor is better than spitting on her.

Shes a born again christian these days. She only apologized for the visit to North Vietnam but she has no regrets at all about her anti-war view. She recently mentioned that she didnt think americans have any business at all in Iraq. If only more christians share her same view about war, we would of been better christians. Too bad that supporting war these days also means you have to be christian too. I think I'm called a antiwar catholic

Since this little fellow who spat on Fonda has taught me a little something, I think I would bring a carton of eggs and throw it on Arnold himself when he makes the rounds here in LA

Most cathliocs I know are against the war. I know in the church my family goes to they pray for a quick end, and no casualties every week.

Regardless, I personally think it was the right thing to do, and am glad we did.

Saddam was an awful man, and the iraqi people finally can choose there own destiny.

I know a guy who served during the V war and he really hates her from her wartime views.

Going to the gun ship and that picture ............... among other things.

And yet Fonda has apologized repeatedly over the years for the picture and continues to do so. I guess this guy missed that. It's too bad more people don't believe in forgiveness.

What a classless asshole. I just find spitting on someone to be the most disgusting thing you could ever do to another human being, its just sickening. Fonda is entitled to her own opinion, and she has said on various occassions what she did was wrong, but what he did was just very disrepectful, and uncalled for.

I am not an expert on this but

- one JF didn't apologize for evrything she did during the V war.

- how would one feel if they went to war and after seeing that kind of war plus lots of death in that jungle - they come back home and are basically treated like shit after serving their country.

I think it was more than being patriotic - it was personal - big difference.

Well, he just shows himself off as a lowlife.

All that happens is he looks stupid and in a week no one will care anyways. If he was looking to make some point, this was not a good way of doing so. There are many better and more civil ways of doing so. You know. Ways that will make you appear as if you have some sense and half a brain.

I mean look at the picture. He already looks like something is missing in the upper story. He should be grateful that Fonda didn't press charges. She probably didn't want to be bothered with the whole thing.

What's next? Now that the guy thinks he can get away with these things, who knows what he will attempt next on someone else. Tripping them down a flight of stairs. Injecting love juice into someone's coffee. I mean people are nuts.
