Ouch. But, seriously: "emo" has an interesting history, was once a genuine and powerful regional form of punk rock, and it is worth understanding.

Re: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Emo is just emotional; Connerys Bond is this unflappable steadfast character while Craig's Bond pouts and suffers emotionally.

Re: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Sure, but Connery wasn't played a real character. Craig is.

Connery played an ignorant, self indulgent Bond. Craig's is more 'open', while Connery would loath that kind of outlook. Both very real characters.

Arrogant maybe?
And yeah, because his character was a man of the 60s who wasn't allowed to have emotions other than anger which he showed by slapping some bitches.

Craig's Bond has emotions -- Connery's doesn't. Of course, Craig has had three very personal movies. Vesper / Revenge for Vesper's death / Protect M. Connery never had that. His most personal moment is punching people at the beginning of Diamonds Are Forever looking for Blofeld. Connery's one chance was On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which was written specifically for him (just as The Living Daylights was written for Roger Moore and GoldenEye was written for Timothy Dalton).

Re: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Is that right about Living Daylights? Sounds off to me considering Moore refused the role after VTAK, and I mean there are action scenes in The Living Daylights, Not pull a sword out of a guy's mouth or try desperately to climb steps kind of action

Re: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Lazenby's fine. He's no Connery, but he's not trying to be. And everything else in this - the action, the music, the love story, Blofeld - just works so well. It's not my favourite Bond, but it's certainly one of the best.

Re: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
This was the only Bond I haven't seen till today. Despite my expectations, I liked Lazenby very much. He should have gotten the chance to reprise his role. His relationship with Diana Rigg worked very well which made the last scene even more effective. The action was nothing to cry about either. Overall, a nice surprise.

Re: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
This was the one I was most eager to see when hulu announced they were putting up all the old Bond films. And just reading this thread, you can see why. Some people say it is the best while just as many say it is the worst.
Happy to report I am pro-Majesty and think it is the only one that rivals the best of the Craig era. You can tell it is going to be a more personal Bond story right away. Instead of the usual one-shot-to-the-gut style of killings that Connery would have, the camera focuses on Lazenby’s hands as he brutally drowns a man. This is a movie that doesn’t want you to be comfortable with the violence. And its why the story with Teresa works, at first she is just another beautiful thing to conquer, but the more we learn of her, the more James sees her as not only a worthy partner, but a way to escape this life of never-ending death. It makes the ending all the more tragic.
While Secret Service does suffer from old-movie pacing issues that make it seem very long, it actually is a very long movie. And the length helps. I love that we get 50 minutes of world and character before the spy-plot of the movie even begins. And while the action is sparse at first, it makes it all the more grand when it comes. The escape scene goes for about half an hour and is thrilling all the way through- needing an avalanche to finally stop its momentum. Same with the all-out, non-sanctioned , assault on Blofeld’s fortress.
I knew about the sad ending before hand, but was still a little hopeful I was wrong. Tough end for a great character. A man like Bond can never be truly happy, but to see this actually break him is almost as heart wrenching. Only two years before did it take only two scenes for Bond to replace his dead girlfriend with a new model. Things like this really elevate this movie from just fun action to action with a purpose. We saw James Bond deconstructed and he never gets put back together. Well at least until they bring Connery back for the next one lol.
