I am in the process of reading Mein Kampf at the moment. A brilliantly evil man he was; I can understand why the book is banned in many nations.

Yeah Mein Kampf is pure shit. I laugh at some of his theories.

I am equally perplexed at why nobody did anything during his rise to power, knowing well what his master plan was through the book. Ignorance is bliss until you are conquered.

Because, like it or not, many powerful people around the world basically agreed with him.

People had alot of motives.
Germany was pissed, and rightfully so. They were in the midst of an awful depression, brought on by an awful treaty to end WW1. Hitler happened to be leading the most powerful party at that time, who happened to be preaching exactly what the people wanted o hear, and walla.
The US was locked in la la land.
France was tied to Britan, knowing they couldn't do anything offensivly without help (though foolishly thinking they were safe and could hold off an attack if need be).
Britan was hoping Germany would do what it promised, and destroy Russia.
All in all ... stupidity abounds.

Watch The Downfall and you'll begin to realise that he was just the same as alot of people. He had an evil side to him, yes, but many of us do, he was just in the position to take it further.
I don't see him as an "evil bastard", tbh.

That's true, including many prominent Americans at the time. He was seen as a hero who led Germany out of a depression.
Also never underestimate capitalism's desire to do business with someone they know will later turn against them if they can make a good profit today.

His racial beliefs qualify him to be an "evil bastard."
Wonder if there are any writings out there about prevailing sentiment in the 1930's, since 20/20 hindsight does not help analyze anything.

First of all, the "awful treaty" was well-deserved considering Germany (well, Austria and Germany) started WW I.
Second of all, Hitler wasn't leading an absolutely most powerful party as the communist party wasn't too far behind. The reason that led to Hitler's gain of power was the flawed constitution of the Weimar Republic (I am especially refering to article 48, so-called "Notverordnung")

No that awful treaty was not well deserved.
Yes Germany started WW1, but to absolutly cripple them the way Europe did was amazingly foolish.
Hindsight is 20-20, but there was still some major oversight. Europe had Germany at the end of ww1 in the plam of their hands. Theycould have forced them to sign any treaty they wanted them too.
Europe's biggest concern was NOT wanting to go to another war, they did NOT want to have to do this again. Neither did the German people, who were sick of the Kaiser, and just wanted to live, rather than die. Unfourtunatly the damn treaty they forced upon germany demanded disgusting ammounts of reparations and payments almost impossible to pay, that would surely cripple the economy. What does mass depression lead to, angst. What does all that angst lead to, revolution. What happens in a revolution, you wind up with a leader who is preaching to the masses.
Hitler rose up slowly, he was actually in the damn goverment. A division like the CIA or FBI, and was sent to investigate this political orginization. He infiltrated it, and liked it so much he left the goverment and stayed in politics. He ended up getting thrown in Jail, where he wrote Mein Kampf (sp?). Once he was released, he went again to the head of the party, and slowly rose to power. You are right when you say that the nazis were not the only political party in Germany, but they were over a 45% majority if I remember correctly. They slowly gained favor among the working class, and hitler promised many things that the people wanted to hear. The communist party was kind of ... I don't know ... imported? Russia was using them to kind of attempt to steer the revolution where they wanted it to go, one reason Hitler hated russia, and a reason Bran mistakenly believed hitler when he said he would attack russia.

Hitlet wasn't evil, he just ridiculously ambitious. It's easy to sign a piece of paper to kill someone, George W Bush has done it plenty of times yet we don't consider him evil. Hitler wanted to lead Germany, and he made some serious mistakes along the way. Genocide is never a good idea, even selfish bastards should realize it'll come back to haunt them. Of course genocide in itself is ridiculously stupid. Killing someone just because someone else told them to believe something is plain idiotic. Go kill the people that are trying to stop you from World Conquest. He could've done it too, but he screwed up in Britain and then Russia.
