Seems pretty good for a film divided between passionate interest and complete apathy.

I highly doubt it only gets a $19 mil 3-day with a $6 mil Wed. Especially when I would think it would lean to more of a night/date movie.

Wed/Thu portion of the 5-day will also be lowered a bit from no Tue night previews.

Feels pretty low to me.

Looks like the high-end here is $33m for the 5-day. Probably going to miss $100m with that opening, considering how front-loaded it will be.

With a $33-$35m 5-day it can still reach $100m.

WOM should help offset the front loading due to the book's fanbase.

It'll need closer to $40m to have a shot. Remember, this is 5-day. It's 3-day will be just $20m or so. No way you'd be thinking that a $20m opener could get to $100m, even with better than average WOM. And even if the WOM is decent, the film's subject isn't that appealing. It's a Marmite movie, and most won't care for it. That $6m opening day isn't very encouraging, either.

^ I agree. As much as people want to hype this I don't see that opening getting it past $100m. I hope my $28.4m 5-day comes true in the end so we can use that money for next game

Were the Millers made 150m off a 26m opening. Asians can totally make just 100m off an opening the same size.

It has an A CinemaScore so it should have amazing legs, hoping this could maybe hit 40 million for the 5 day! My audience last night loved it

I’m sure the legs will be good enough to top Game Night as the highest comedy of the year. A $5m opening day is weak though. The low predictors in shack’s game are feeling pretty good.

It's really not weak though. It's a Wednesday opening, not a Friday. And this is an all Asian cast - it may take some convincing for WOM to spread beyond its initial target audience.

A lot of initial predictions for the film were at $40M or less total.

There is going to be a segment of the population that wont be swayed to see CRA regardless of WOM or reviews. That's true for any film, but I think said effect is being minimized here. RomComs are just a tough sell this day and age. Only two have opened over $20m (3-day) since 2014.

This will certainly leg it past $100m. The great WOM alone will offset any initial front loading. If anything, the August release will only help it.

The 5-day will be around the $35-40m mark. We're the Millers managed to take a similar opening and turn it into $150m. So i dont think it will be difficult for CRA to at least get past $100m

Yes, technically it is not weak for this type of movie. Just as Christopher Robin’s opening was good for a Winnie the Pooh movie. It is only disappointing compared to potential. I was thinking $7m and thought it to be cynical. On the other hand, The Meg’s opening wasn’t that great for a $160m budgeted movie, but it flew past all expectations and became the center of all pop culture for a short time. Crazy Rich Asians had that potential and I’d have been less surprised by a $10m day than what we got.

I won't get the reported Thursday gross for Crazy Rich Asians until early Friday morning my time, but for what it's worth, the film held up extremely well today on MovieTickets for a Wednesday opener.
