 Favourite SHARK Movies
What's Your Favourite SHARK Movie? With The Meg coming out this weekend, it seemed like a good time to vote on this. You may pick 2 in the poll.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
Okay, clearly Jaws is the best, but it's not my favorite. It did scare the bejeebus out of me when I saw it as an 11 year old, and haunted many of my swim practices, and I actually don't think I've seen it since.
My favorite is Deep Blue Sea, which I still remember seeing in theaters as a 14 year old, and the HOLY FUCK moment when Samuel L. Jackson __________.
Also Sharknado. Or was it Sharknado 2 that I really loved? So fucking stupid ridiculous, they nailed it. And Tara Reid's face. And that ginger stud from that 90's show. And chainsaws. Really, the title tells you everything you need to know. Campy, genius.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
Open Water is one of my favorite horror films of all-time. I find it absolutely fascinating, devastating, and visceral. It is a brilliant example of indie-movie ingenuity. I remember watching it in the theatre and just being bowled over by the you-are-there intimacy of the experience, particularly the disorienting storm scene. And the ending, where she gives up out of sheer exhaustion and terror and lets herself goes under, is haunting.
I am also a big fan of 47 Meters Down. I saw it twice in theatres. To me, it came out of left field as a well-acted, gorgeously shot suspense film with a cool, claustrophobic premise. I am going to vote for it as my second choice over the classic Jaws.

Jaws Jaws 2 Deep Blue Sea Orca (Technically a killer whale but it is almost a beat for beat ripoff of jaws)
I'm hoping the Meg is great as the quality on this list goes from a A+ to a C pretty quickly.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
Well, I haven't seen The Meg yet, but I think Jaws and Open Water are the best shark films, with The Shallows as a close third. The Meg could top them all, but I doubt it does. Though it might tie for third place.

Apart from Jaws - haven't seen any of the films mentioned.
Keen to catch up on Open Water, DBS and Shallows.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
Jaws 3 is the stupidest shit, but I still love it. It's like a proto-Jurassic World, but made 20 years before the technology was there to do it successfully.

I have a soft spot for 3. But 2 is bad. 4 I remember being pretty lame.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
2 is competent, but it’s kind of dull. 4 might have worked better if they had time (it started filming in February 1987 for a July release!) and more money, although the terrible mystical stuff was part of the original pitch.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
I also have a soft spot for Jaws 3. I watched it so fucking much as a kid, but overall I do prefer Jaws 2 mostly because Roy Scheider was back. I never understood the hype on Open Water though.
It's not a bad movie, but I didn't give a shit about any of the characters and the use of the sharks was pretty weak IMO, although I know it's more about the tension than the actual onscreen violence.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
Yeah, it's about what you don't see. The unknown terror lurking that could attack at any moment. That's terrifying.

It was more real. I'd have been terrified in that situation. Especially during nighttime. Loved the nighttime scene with the storm when I saw it in theaters.

 Re: Favourite SHARK Movies
Well anyone who enjoyed The Meg, like me, would still like Deep Blue Sea more. Though I admit I’d probably vote for Sharknado if you gave a third option or excluded Jaws.

I don't see a lot of shark movies, but of the ones I have:
1. Jaws 2. Deep Blue Sea 3. The Shallows
And I really liked all 3.
