Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
Damn, glad I was able to watch MI:6 this afternoon via e-ticket. Fun while it lasted. They should have just raised prices to $15-$20 after the first 3 month's of the prices decrease. sure people would have been mad but it still was a great value. I've seen 42 films since last august. Normally I catch about 10 movies a year at the theater.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
And it’s back on. I saw the notification as I was walking to the parking lot after my Fallout screening. I turned right around and checked in for The Spy Who Dumped Me preview. I figured that as long as the card works, I’m going to use it as much as possible before it’s over (which still could happen after the 1st). On my way back in I found five bucks. I’m calling today a win-win. Fallout was awesome, I found five bucks, and the Moviepass card is working again. The only downside might be having to sit through The Spy Who Dumped Me. Maybe it’ll surprise.

I was hoping to see MI with it tomorrow night, but have to see something else instead. I figure I will use it before it goes belly up, which will probably be soon.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
Today first started with $8 surcharges on all of the “big” movies all day. I left work 20 minutes early to make a 6:20 showing of Leave No Trace at 6:20 (no surcharge) but when I left work, it was greyed out. I decided to not go to a movie because I wasn’t going to drive all the way out there just to find out my card wasn’t going to work. I kept an eye on the app and about 20 minutes later, EVERYTHING had the $8 surcharge, even older movies like Ocean’s 8. About a half hour later, everything but a 9:55 showing of Hotel Transylvania 3 (with a $8 surcharge) disappeared. I tried two e-ticketing theaters just for shits and giggles to see what would happen and it said that there was an error.
Well, Movie Pass. I’ve been a customer on and off since 2013. It’s been fun while it’s lasted.

Yeah it was a fun ride. I am not joining AMC, am not a fan of their theaters. I will wait and see if Regal offers something down the road.

LOL MoviePass is not making major movies available on the app anymore.
So... bye?

That news was the final straw for me, I cancelled today. I am not sure if MoviePass will survive the week with how difficult people are having buying tickets.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
I wish they had done that in the first place, without the peak pricing. And outages.
I am fine with going back to the way things were in the days before MoviePass. Maybe I’ll try Stubs or Sinemia in December and January when there is always a lot to see.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
If they had started with 15 bucks a month, it would make sense and even if they didn't allow you to see big movies for a week or two. At this point, though they are just too late. Most of their subscribers will cancel and they are bleeding money so fast there is nothing they can do. I give it about a week before they go out a business since next week they will get kicked off the stock exchange.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
I switched. Once they changed their plan to 3 a month it wasn't worth it for me, and besides the showtimes now disappear in middle of the day.
Moviepass is trying to stay in business by selling shares and diluting the stock. They just went from about 2 million shares in the market to 600 million within two weeks. lol. Stock is down 99.999% since October. Even if they lose subscribers like us who cost them a lot, they will still continue to burn through cash without a clear path to profitability. It would be amazing if they survive until the end of the year. If not quite dead yet, the app is a zombie.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
So i switched over to AMC. It worked well the first two weeks, got my moneys worth already with Nun and Predator, and will add A Simple Favor soon. But my main worry with it has already popped up, my local AMC is small and they opted to get Life Itself instead of Ass Nation.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
There is another competitor out there called Sinemia.
They have 9.99 / 3 movie plan. Reserve ahead. No cards. It's digital. Only 2D stuff. Any theatre. If that appeals to folks.
They do happen to have a 30 movies a day plan to...crazy and there's is 29.99. 2D only but again reservable, no gps nonsense, any theatre and I think it works with movie ticketing apps besides their own app. Not positive on that.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
Apparently Regal Theatres is going to be coming out with their own sub plan soon. The video I saw discussing it mentioned 3 tiers, top pricing around 25$ and 3 reservations at a time but apparently no limit. We'll see about that. For me, I'd switch to that from AMC just because there's a new Regal being built so much closer to me and the other Regal has director seats and the only true Imax theatre and better food choices and a leagues better reward program.

Lol Sinemia. Sounds like a VD.
I'm not even sure what I have. It's like 12$ a year and I honestly haven't paid for a movie the last three times out, (had some sort of special for my birthday)

I’d like that, but my local AMC has been really good this year in getting what I want even with only six screens. Plus, my New York trip alone yielded $60 in savings from only 3 movies. Would be a tough choice.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
I only go to regal when there’s a movie I HAVE to see in IMAX (like Godzilla KOM) otherwise AMC Dolby Cinema is just fine. Why the fuck did Regal make it soo confusing with 3 tiers and calling them unlimited. I’ll be sticking to AMC A-List for awhile.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
The Regal around me sucks so I'm good with A-List. It's now $24 I think which is still not bad with how often I'm going and Dolby tickets being $19.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
AMC started a program called Artisans, which they say is to help small and midsized movies stand out among the blockbusters. That explains why my small theater got Booksmart, Late Night and Yesterday over just giving another screen to a Disney movie. No Midsommar, but hopefully we get Crawl and Stuber in a few weeks.

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
A-List is still the shit. I hope the price never goes higher as I'm not sure how they're able to have any format with the subscription and still make a profit but *shrug* love that I can watch Dolby without worrying about the price.

I'm moving in a few months, and there will be an AMC almost right across the street. So I'll definitely be looking into doing this. (If I can get away once or twice a month)

Alamo Drafthouse has jumped in this pool
$20/month for 1 movie per day (everywhere minus LA/NY) $30/month for everywhere +LA/NY

Re: AMC gives Moviepass the finger with $20 per month plan
My a-list got automatically re-upped, but they gave me a month for free since I never got a refund for my last pre-covid month (had totally forgot.) Maybe I’ll see Jungle Cruise now. Hard to justify it for August though. Maybe Free Guy, Dont Breathe and Demonic? None of those really seem worth going out for.
