Great openings AND great holds - what a weekend...

Wow great multipliers all around. Quiet Place slays, RPO salvages, Black Panther keeps $700m alive and John Cena opens a comedy higher than Jason Bateman.

VERY strong weekend indeed.

AQP broke out and is showing signs of great IM. I won't rule out $200m total for it just yet.
RPO has $150m locked up unless it drops like a Rock next weekend, highly unlikely.
Blockers opening bigger than Game Night is definitely due to reviews, its surprising specially given the competition, I really wouldn't rule out $100m total for it yet but the CinemaScore was a low.
BP is doing REALLY well but I feel it will fall slightly short of $700m mark in the end, but Disney could easily push it past the mark.
ICOI seems to be heading for $100m total as well, crazy that it hasn't dropped above 25% thus far.

AWIT finally seems to be stabilizing and maybe it can still reach $100m mark.

Pretty shocked by Quiet Place's performance.

This is a really strong weekend. Its 4th biggest April weekend (Top 12 and Overall grosses) unadjusted.

Quiet Place will essentially triple Paramount's annual gross. They were behind even Focus Features. Funny that they originally distributed Iron Man and Marvel movies...alot changes in ten years.

Awesome. So A Quiet Place and Ready Player One will hit 150m. A Quiet Place could even hit 200m. A Wrinkle in Time could hit 100m.

What a great weekend this turned out to be. Not only because of how BIG AQP ended up being, but it's nice to see Blockers meeting expectations aswell. I'm also glad to see RPO hold really well and with this second weekend drop it should be locked to cross $150M. With a possible $600M+ WW total I think it should definitely be considered a hit at this point.

Amazing for Quiet Place of course. Between Split, Get Out, Don't Breathe and now this, high concept (but mainstream-appealing), high quality horror thrillers are a sure-fire formula these days. Even The Witch made a nice profit despite being art house-y.

That's a pretty good drop for RP1, it could reach $160-$170m, which would be really good for it. And it's killing it internationally so a WW total of at least $550-$600m seems like a given now. Could this be the start of a franchise?

I'm so happy for A Quiet Place.

That hold for Gnomes is amazing but not totally surprising. There's nothing new for kids. There's not another big kids movie until the middle of June. That's just insane. I highly doubt Show Dogs is breaking out. Same goes for Sgt. Stubby. So Gnomes should have some strong holds. It's too bad it opened so small.

I think it's most impressive since God's Not Dead, which was more impressive than Fireproof. Though that one did impress.

Isle of Dogs did really good this weekend it should easily pass Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Chappaquiddick overperformed in a big way. I figured people were tired of Presidential movies in our current political climate.

Sherlock Gnomes is such a failure. Just $33m after 17 days. No number of great holds can save it from total embarrassment. Gnomeo was at $74m by now.

Yeah Sherlock Gnomes has faired poorly, especially when you consider this year so far has been anaemic in terms of animated hits.

Great weekend. Put out films people want to see and they will turn up. Hence why March was so pathetic - terrible slate of films.

I doubt it. I don’t think too many people mistake JFK or Jackie (it’s similar to Jackie more than JFK) as being presidential movies. This is the same thing. It involves politicians and a political family, but there is no politicking. There also isn’t a president, unless we’re counting portraits and brief TV clips.

There was a Fox News front page article on this movie. Right wingers view this as putting the Left in its place kinda movie, so yeah, it is hella political

I don't think audiences care for the trivial distinction you're highlighting. Chappaquiddick is a political movie with strong ties to the presidency and a presidential family. To many people, a Kennedy is a Kennedy is a Kennedy. Compare that to other releases out at the moment, and it's exactly what Rolling Thunder alluded to, and certainly did not warrant your wise-ass correction.
