The review embargo lifts on the 15th which is pretty much the same length of time WB gave for the BvS reviews (it might be even a day or two shorter). That would explain why Affleck looks like he’s being held at gunpoint in any photos he takes with the cast. It’s also not a good sign that the 121 minute run-time was studio mandated and not the natural storytelling length of the film. So it’s hacked-to-death like BvS.

And as of now, the movie is on track to open to $120 million. First, that’s pathetic when Thor just opened to pretty much the same amount. It’s the fucking Justice League. It should be a slam dunk. And second, it doesn’t guarantee $300 million and I think Thor will get there.

That's what Sparrow is implying. They were never going to lift it earlier ... because it's probably as bad as BvS.

Firstly it has to do with Thor still being relevant in terms of critics to quickly compare this to. Secondly their marketing is delayed overall (also thanks to Thor) so I think they might want to sit on this one longer. There is also the case of Snyder developing this one and I believe WB is well aware of his credibility with critics. As for Wonder Woman I believe there were other factors involved in terms of first female superhero and JL tonally looks so much more like BvS than Wonder Woman.

I agree that 121 minute runtime screams studio intervention for this kind of movie but that means they are also sweating more on this one and would want people to buy their tickets before reviews pour in.

If Thor gets a multiplier similar to DS then it gets $331m but I think it will do an overall multiplier of 2.5 and with $305m total. JL will open bigger like $140m-$150m and with a much smaller multiplier of 2.2 would still be slightly higher than that with $310m-$330m total. This might get down to actuals if Thor performs well and JL does slightly better than BvS.

Why would it get just a multiplier of 2.5? Because Justice League is coming out? Thor: The Dark World had a 2.4 multiplier and it had to contend with Catching Fire on its 15th day in release, which made $158m in its first three days. So I think Ragnarok can easily do better. It doesn't even need to reach a 3.0 multiplier for it to make more than BvS.

Jokes apart yes there is a potential for Thor to do better but I don't think it will do better than DS given its first Monday so I made that comparison and gave it slightly lesser multiplier with or without JL releasing soon after. Plus compared to THG I think JL is much more of a direct competition so its surely not getting a big multiplier.

Another thing to consider that JL will open bigger enough to get past $300m with ease and I see a slightly better multiplier for it than BvS to get past $330m mark. BvS was pretty much the worst case scenario for a HUGE opener.

Catching Fire may not be "as direct" in competition, but it still opened to $158m, an opening that I do not think Justice League will reach.
