Re: China Box Office
Wolf Warriors 2 now has $871.08m and will extend to October 28, any chance of exceeding $900m? https://www.screendaily.com/news/china- ... 15.article

Depends if they expand it over the holiday.

Re: China Box Office
It is still in the top ten. It made $230k on 3rd October at #10. Total stands at $851.6m.
#1 Never Say Die seems to be doing well with $100m in 4 days. #2 The Foreigner isn't doing well. Just $36m in 4 days. Surprising for a Chan film. No wonder why he makes crappy comedies for Spring Festival. They fucking sell, and they sell well! Just like Never Say Die is doing.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand nothing else is worth mentioning apart from War for the Planet of the Apes having grossed $109m in 19 days.

Re: China Box Office
The Wrap quote number 'more than $900 million' for Wolf Warriors 2 https://www.thewrap.com/china-outlook-t ... rossroads/Even if it's worldwide number, I'd still think it's either through manipulation or wrong currency conversion or both.

Re: China Box Office
The Space Between Us comes out on 13th October, lol. I don't see the point but I guess they want to see if it clicks. They need to make money somewhere!
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is out on 20th October. I'll see it but not in China as they cut the first. I don't actually care for it at all but just because they hacked the first I will see it in Hong Kong (if I see it at all).
Now one I am interested in; Geostorm is out on 27th October. Should do well in Hong Kong and China because Daniel Wu stars and just these types of film always do well here.
Then it's Thor: Ragnarok on 3rd November and Blade Runner 2049 on 10th November. I imagine that will be severely cut to get it down to 100-120 minutes, and I suspect that cut will be more bearable and exciting.
Manhunt comes out on 24th November, and I cannot wait.

Re: China Box Office
Never Say Die has $201m after 8 days. It's making around $20m per day over the holiday. Wolf Warriors 2 keeps showing up in the top ten again (at #10). Cume is $853m. The Foreigner won't make it to $100m. Cume is $63m.
The strategy to only allow Chinese films at holiday times is working. I hate it, but it is working. Foreign films are being shut out. All I can hope now is that Hollywood counters by pulling their products out of China completely.

Geostorm opened yesterday with $8m. I was surprised to see it opened since I hadn't seen even one poster.

Thor: Ragnarok opens on 3rd November.
Patriots Day opens day-and-date with Justice League on 17th November. What a pointless release.
Coco opens on 24th November.

That pleases me actually, I never got to watch it still, was close one time, so will make sure not to miss this opportunity.

Re: China Box Office
Thor: Ragnarok has amassed $17m in one day (plus Thursday previews). So it looks to have a $60m+ opening weekend as Sunday is the largest day for box office in China.
Blade Runner 2049 winds down its release with barely over $10m. lol

Re: China Box Office
So Murder on the Orient Express came out Friday and has grossed $13m in 2 days, but it could not dethrone Thor: Ragnarok, which is up to $88m after 9 days. Murder, as expected as it is a new release, is having more showings than Ragnarok, but less attendance.
Geostorm will probably end with $65m total.
Coming Soon
17 Nov: Justice League 17 Nov: Patriots Day 24 Nov: Coco 24 Nov: Manhunt (John Woo's return to action)

Re: China Box Office
Hmm, their optimism is also echoed by Forbes:
Quote: Coco’s third place start at $2 million (John Woo’s Manhunt took first place with $4.5 million, and Justice League nabbed second place with $3.8 million) isn’t exactly cause for great optimism, but its fantastic word-of-mouth could swiftly give the picture strong box office legs. Average moviegoer ratings for Coco at review site Douban are at 9.4, and 9.6 at Maoyan, the third-best this year behind Dangal (9.8) and Wolf Warrior 2 (9.7).

Re: China Box Office
I wouldn't go to much on the moviegoer ratings yet, they usually start high after one day but could easily been one point down after the weekend. Could stick, but I wouldn't go off on it having great WOM in China yet.

Re: China Box Office
How the fuck did they get from Coco and Zootopia to ... Dangal?
I agree with stuffp. I do not see this doing well if its opening day is just $1.6m, no matter how good WOM is.

I was also wondering how Dangal was the right comparison here.

Re: China Box Office
Forbes called it. Coco surged 270% to $7.1m in China. Its projected to open with $18.8M USD in China, with a strong chance at crossing $20M. Either opening would be the biggest ever for Pixar. The WOM is still 9.6 out of 10. It may have the chance to beat Despicable Me 3 there to become the highest animated grossing release since Zootopia.
I found the data from Box Office Theory (Under China).

Re: China Box Office
That's not as impressive as it sounds considering all family movies increase from Friday to Saturday. Still great when comparing to other animated films, though. And there is no chance it gets even close to Despicable Me 3. That made $150m+.

Re: China Box Office
Great Saturday jump but yeah as Algren already mentioned Saturday sees a big spike for family movies. Its record breaking for Pixar maybe but that's not saying much.

Re: China Box Office
Sunday increases are totally normal here in China. It is the biggest day of the week. If Coco were to increase by that amount then it surely is in for a big total. I doubt it, but let's see.
