Most 3 days estimates were a little bit underestimated...

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
Does anyone know how many horror films have done over 100 million. Is it more than 20?

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
No, it's more than that.
You got 2 Screams, 2 PA, Jaws, Exorcist, 2 Conjuring, Annabelle 2 will hit it, The Grudge, The Ring, 2 Scary Movie, 3 M Night films, Get Out (Kind of crazy that 2017 had 3 horror films hit 100 million)
I'm not including Signs. otherwise that would be 18. While not really reported on 1/6 of big horror movies happened this year, and they were all well received.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
I guess the Twilight films would make it an even 30.But I'm not sure those would count. Annabelle 2 and Logan might be the biggest stories the year. Is Annabelle 2 that good? I hated the first film, but it has to be good, otherwise it should have done under 70 million. I got to see Get Out too, its the biggest horror film in 18 years.

Scary Movie franchise? Ghostbusters? Those count as horror? OK.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
Ghostbusters was a genuinely creepy film when it first came out, like Gremlins. I mean listen, it's not like 100s of films have done it, I'd put them in there.
And then we get into the age old debate of Seven, Silence of the Lambs, etc. Signs, War of the Worlds and The Village are also iffy. The point I was making that this might be the biggest year for horror films since 1999 or 1996, and no one has commented on it.
2000 was the last year to have 2, and we had 3 legit horror films hit that mark. So mark it down.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
Signs and The Village beat Scary Movie as horror any time of day. Se7en also. Silence of the Lambs I always felt was definitely psychological horror.
But yes, this is huge year for horror.

But yes, this is huge year for horror. Well Horror Comedy is always big, but only those 2 ever did it. To say The Village is better, i don't know. Obviously adjusted you have Young Frankenstein, Frankenstein, Rosemary's Baby, Scream 3, Iknow what you did last summer,Flatliners, etc. Even adjusted I'm not sure it's over 50 films.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
One of the losers is Dunkirk. It can't even crawl to 200 million with all these rank films coming out?
Annabelle is a winner. Love it love it love it. I like that universe.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
I'd count Sleepy Hollow as a horror movie. It's an ode to the Hammer Horror days, and is still pretty grisly in spots. I'd even put above Split and especially Interview With a Vampire (Though I don't begrudge either being considered horror). I also think Gremlins counts.
Van Helsing shouldn't count. I mean, does anybody even get bit by a vampire in the movie? I think we can maybe slip The Mummy in, (not the sequels), as the way the expedition crew gets picked off one by one is kind of horrorish.
Maaaaybe Ghostbusters, but not Ghostbusters 2. I don't know, I think you need to have victims to be a horror film. But even though Scary Movie had a body count, I think the lighting, lack of blood, etc means it's not.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
Scary Movie leans too much towards parody to count as horror. Something like Cabin in the Woods could still be considered horror, but you don't have scenes of someone getting impaled by a penis in a bathroom stall.

Re: 4 day Labor Day Weekend Estimates
Dam I miss the horror group was here. Of course horror comedies count. Honestly you're going to say films like Tremors, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, young Frankenstein, and Shaun of the dead aren't horror. You are out of your minds. Lest we forget Scream is as much a parody of horror films that scary movie is. Just beacause you also laugh doesn't mean it isn't horror. And the blood argument is just stupid, the original Halloween doesn't have one drop of blood in it.
