 Re: Weekend Estimates
I will never understand why a studio estimate is $117,015,000 instead of $117,000,000 - it's only an estimate...

BTW and off-topic - what happened to Dr. Lecter? He hasn't posted anything since February...

 Re: Weekend Estimates
That Saturday drop for Spider-Man is quite surprising. I guess that's what happens when you have a rush factor and kids being out of school. This is still a really solid opening for it though, however Wonder Woman is pretty much locked for the summer crown. I don't see it stabilizing enough to ever catch up even with good WOM, but a final total over $300M is great nonetheless. Marvel has successfully brought back the Spidey brand IMO.

The Big Sick will be in 2500 theaters next weekend, will be interesting to see how it does.
Very good drop for Baby Driver. Probably won't finish with 100m but it'll be close.

I'm actually wondering if it's wise to go so wide already. Might have been better to expand a little more gradually. Maybe 800 theaters next weekend. However IF it can get a really solid sampling next weekend it should be very leggy so it could work out.

My only guess is that they want to show confidence in the $117m, so they go over by just a bit to let people know that "we're sure the actual will be at least $117m", whereas if they just went with an estimate of $117,000,000, pessimists might say "oh it'll drop for sure", so the extra $15,000 and the effort it takes to type it (virtually none) is perhaps worth it for the hours of added positivity towards its opening weekend.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Looking at any number from Transformers: The Last Knight's run is just so deflating. Its opening weekend, its holds, even its run in China. But then it is a shit film, so it's getting what it deserves.
Good opening for Spider-Man: Homecoming. As the first post-Garfield Spider-Man film, it's doing very well. Its legs will push it over BvS.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Pretty good holds in general in face of a $100m+ opener.
DM3 should have held better and this number is much below the $43m of DM2 and just about even with the original, albeit a much bigger drop 53% vs the 41% (original).
TF5 is not going to stabilize with that WoM, the worst part is that it hasn't even crossed $500m WW yet it has still Brazil, Mexico, Japan and Spain to open but I don't see those making a HUGE total and it will most likely end up below $650m WW mark, that's a HUGE drop-off from AoE and even lower than the original.
