SMH is doing pathetic on MT and Fandango, for what it's worth

You would think with it being Spider-Man presales will be a bit stronger, but being a part of the MCU maybe it will have more walk-up business than usual.

It appears to have picked up on Pulse, but it's still 10% behind DM3 on MT and barely double WW and we are 26 hours from opening...

I'm even kind of doubting my Homecoming prediction. I mean you'd think maybe it will generate interest with the great reviews and it now being a part of Marvel but I'm not terribly impressed with the sales on MT.com. With so much under-performing though everything is primed for it to do well.

Looks like most industry predictions are in the $100-$110m region which is probably where it ends up.

Fandango is finally saying it's outpacing Wonder Woman in presales, but honestly I don't know if that means much this late in the game. I still have hope for $125M+, but I would consider anything over $100M a good start for it.

It does feel like it will settle in the $100-$110M range though.

I think it will do over a 3X multiplier, so it doesn't need a record breaking opening.

DL is saying $13m+ previews for SM:H. It looks like a $130m OW in the making.

It should skew more to families so weekend business will be brisk.

My theater was packed.

Weird thing happened though. The showing my friends and I saw was considered sold out while my friend was in line, but he just decided to buy a ticket online, which he was able to do, and there were dozens of empty seats by the time the showing started. I guess that theater calls it sold out if it's like 85% full...

$13m would be good for the previews, ofcourse that doesn't give a clear idea where it will land but its definitely not going to be a turd and do sub-$100m.

If people have chosen their seat on an online platform, it instantly is shown as sold out for walkups. They will have, like, ten minutes to actually pay for the seat before it's show as available again. So a showing could be shown as sold out but a certain portion are just pending. At least that's how it works in China.

Could be. There could also be a few other options. Here you can reserve (and not pay) a seat up until 30 minutes (in one chain up until 10 minutes if you're an owner of a special loyalty card they offer) and the showing will be shown as sold out if everything else sells before then. But if people don't pick their reservations up the seats will become available 30 minutes (or 10) before the movie starts and it won't be sold out (unless it sells out again by walkups).

The other option could be if a theater has a pre-allocated number of seats for a certain online ticket provider. So they might be sold out by the pre-allocated number of walk-up tickets they decided to have, they might be sold out on MT but still have some tickets on Fandango or whatever. They do not necessarily have to have linked accounts so they all know how many seats they actually have available. They most likely just pre-allocate a number of seatings.

Or...perhaps the seats were sold and people just couldn't make it for whatever reason.

The theater I went to doesn't do reserved seating. I'm thinking that they do save a certain # of tickets for online sales.

Whoops wrong thread. They should really pin the upcoming weekend's thread ;).

But that's just the name of the "event" or whatever you want to call it.
