Honestly though. I've started sitting through so many of these due to you guys that I am getting a *little* better. I cover my eyes, but try to peak through whenever I can.

Hey, I noticed you said Land was the fourth one Termi. What's the third? Was it any good?

Day of the Dead (1985) is the 3rd one. They don't really say when it's set but it must be a few years after Dawn because the zombies have pretty much taken over the world. They look much more rotten and disfigured. One scientist says they outnumber humans 400,000 to 1. It's set mostly in an underground bunker, so it's very clausterphobic. There are only 12 scientists and military men living there who don't know if they're the only survivors left or not. This one mostly focses on them trying to figure out what is causing the zombie plague and how to contain it. The scientists and military men do not co-exist very well and it ultimately causes their doom at the end. It's not overly violent except at the very end, which is probably one of the most violent endings to a movie i've ever seen. This movie gets so much undue flak for being so talky, but i love it. I love the tension between the survivors and how it ultimately causes their downfall. It's a totally different feel than Dawn, but i think it's fantastic.


You can see why i am so excited about Land of the Dead being moved up to June, since it's the first new "Dead" film in 20 years. I think i'll see it at least 5 times at the theater :grin:

in 2002 i went to Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, PA. It's the mall where Dawn was filmed. It was one of the highlights of my life. Although the mall looks almost totally different today i still was able to find several of the places that some of my favorite scenes were filmed. It was such a treat to go there. It is only about 1 1/2 hours from my house.

Term, I will be in. On friday I get off work at around 10 so I should be able to pop it in around 10:30 and watch all night long.

Is Day or the Dawn remake worth my time? I know night and the original dawn are classics but the new ones I'm iffy about. The fast moving zombies turn me off for the remake.

the dawn remake is actually pretty good. not as good as the original to me, but i was very happy that it turned out to be pretty good and not terrible.

Dawn of the Dead does, indeed, deliver a message. Of course that's, as always, up for interpretation, but in my (and many film reviewers') opinion it delivers quite a bit of a consumerism criticism. Therefore the setting in the supermarket and what happens there. It's rather subtle, but well-done.

i always thought "Twilight of the Dead" sounded good. That was a working title for a while. But i like Land of the Dead.

There are two huge problems with his film. One, it's incredibly cheesy. Slapping zombies, come on.

But all that aside, I didn't understand the logic of the stand-off. You have 2 military guys with several hundred high powered guns at their disposable and probably somewhere around 250-300,000 rounds of ammo. I don't understand, especially with zombies of the slow moving variety, why a mop up operation took so long. It just seemed like a lot of goofy running through a mall just for the sake of it.

well, it took them so long because they had to first block the doors and lock the place down, because new zombies were coming in the mall all the time. they had plenty of ammo, yes, but it would be pointless just to waste it by blasting zombies randomly when the doors were not locked and barracaded. and to top that off Roger was bitten and severely immobilized when they were getting the trucks, so that basically left Peter by himself with a pregnant woman and a man who is inexperienced with guns to look after.

as for the cheese part. yes it is cheesy, but romero kind of wanted it that way. he wanted to give it the feel of a giant comic book. that's why the blood was such a bright red color. and when you said "slapping zombies", did you mean when the raiders came in at the end? if so, i think you can chalk that up again to them not taking zombies seriously and wanting just to mess around with them. it sure did come back to "bite" them in the end though .

and then you consider that thousands of people die per day, and combine that with the fact that the military didn't take this phenomenon seriously, and that's why the zombies slowly were able to overrun humanity. but meh, to each his own. i didn't expect everyone to like it. thanks for your input loyal, and thanks for watching.
