Fucking hell, that's crazy. Is it one of the most expensive movies ever made?

It will still turn a profit, but it might not make as much from China as people think. Chinese distributors and cinemas will get the lions share.

Yeah for the movies making a ton in China they get about only 20%-25% of the profits so its not HUGE profit. $250m is quite expensive they should start keeping the budgets constant at this point.

A few days ago you couldn't calculate a film's multiplier.

Not getting into this, but...

Just saying...you joined on Jan 01, 2010. Lumpy Space Princess joined on Feb 25, 2017. It is a bit rich to say she has no idea how BO works when a few days ago you couldn't calculate a film's multiplier.

Oh, I know it wasn't. I don't care about the point you were trying to make. Let's put out one fire before we start with another.

Wow on The Promise, I don't feel it's marketed as this mid-level epic at all. Even Unforgettable seems high as I don't see what they need to spend the money on, except standard sets etc. (like I know if such a film is set in New York you're getting into double digit millions, but otherwise no idea).

Unforgettable has a decent budget.

What the hell on The Promise?

I honestly feel like that's expensive for Unforgettable. I mean even Don't Breathe cost just 10 Million and that looked great.

Let's not forget that THE PROMISE wasn't made to turn a profit, it was made foremost to teach audiences about the Armenian genocide and was mainly financed by Armenians for that purpose...

Based on critics reviews, you'd expect 90m buys you a better film.

Just going by the budget and reviews I don't think that's always true. There have been films that have done less on a bigger budget and poor(er) reviews.

I guess that's the standard budget and since the last one did so well it makes sense and the visuals are much bigger in scale compared to the last time.

That looks to be the same budget as the first, they probably spend more on marketing though for vol. 2. And the budget at 200 or 250 that isn't really a difference for a film of this magnitude anyway.

I thought the marketing of first had a bigger campaign. Vol. 2 feels like it just exists and other than starting the summer, Disney isn't doing justice to a movie this big and important.
