 Re: Captain America: Civil War
I think RDJ showing his age helped the movie. Tony has been nearly broken by the events of his five movies. And now his wife is gone, his best friend is paralyzed and he finds out Cap is protecting the guy who killed his parents. We can understand why he snaps at the end rather than it being one more fight for the sake of it.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
One of the best Marvel films. I bought into each side's reasons for taking the one they did and the responsibility of being the Avengers was a weight that worked throughout. From a comedy perspective this was one of my favorite MCU films, just something about it felt more natural and fresh compared to their usual shtick. Spiderman steals the show, Black Panther is great and Ant Man's usage is amazing. For a movie with so many Avengers I thought the wealth was spread pretty well. The airport scene is spectacular even if nobody really wants to hurt each other, then it's a nice appetizer to the real fight. Zemo is one of the better MCU villains even though he has no powers because he felt like a real person with motivations and they set him up well with how many other characters in the film had lost people because of the Avengers.

Zemo's motivations are right, I just feel the execution of it, is lacking for me. Wouldn't it have been better if he had an avenger killed, and then framed it on another avenger so there would be conflict. Blowing up the UN, which actually was making an attempt to regulate the Avengers and avoid things like Sokovia. And his end part, where he goes to find the super-soldiers, and then just kills them, while not knowing at all whether he's being followed to there. And while even he is followed by Cap and Bucky, the whole point seems to have been to show Tony the video, but how did he know Tony was going to show up there at that time. So just some plot mishaps for me, but overall the film is very coherent and enjoyable, with great fighting scenes.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
This was brilliant. My favourite of all the MCU films.
Marvel should just sign the Russo Bros on to direct all their films. This is leagues better than the Whedon Avengers films. They finally get the level of levity/jokes right here. It all feels so natural and not like they are trying too hard.
Spidey shines. Great debut from Black Panther. Ant-Man is perfectly used here. Even Vision who i found to be dull in Ultron was interesting to watch here.
The action scenes are fatastic. I loved how the final fight scene wasnt a "save the world" type scene but rather a more intimate battle that packed much more an emotional punch than anything in TA or Ultron.
I'm interested to see where they go to from here with Tony Stark. He's a broken man by the end of the film. I wonder if they are flirting with the Demon in a Bottle storyline for IM4 or the first Infinity War film.
I badly need to see this film again. I missed the Marisa Tomei scene with RDJ as i had to step out of the theater and i'd like to see the younger Tony Stark scene again.
List:
1. CA: Civil War (A+) 2. CA: The Winter Soldier (A+) 3. Guardians of the Galaxy (A) 4. Iron Man (A) 5. Iron Man 3 (A-) 6. CA: The First Avenger (A-) 7. Thor (A-) 8. Ant-Man (B+) 9. Thor : The Dark World (B) 10. The Avengers: Age of Ultron (B) 11. The Incredible Hulk (B) 12. The Avengers (B-) 13. Iron Man 2 (C)

It is decent but nothing to write home about.
Watch them in the cinema, catch them on TV two years later, this universe is just there.
Great for the diaper men.

These feel like episodes in a TV series more than movies.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
I liked it. Didn't love it. The newer elements like Black Panther, Spider Man and Ant-Man as part of the team are the best parts. But a lot of the film draws on knowledge of the previous MCU films, which is a problem, considering how forgettable most of them are. Even the ones that I liked (Age of Ultron, Winter Soldier) were hard for me to remember, and the continuations of those storylines were hard to follow. As many have said, the action is awesome, but it doesn't quite satisfy for me. Maybe if I gave all of the MCU films a rewatch (unlikely), I'd like it more, but as it stands...

is it really that hard to remember a movie? Especially one that's well liked. Am I alone? Even a forgettable film stays with me (ironically for how forgettable it is)

I side with zwackerm. I forget films all the time. Especially in series such as this or Resident Evil where they are all so similar. I don't care so much about these film series. I have limited space in my memory for this type of fare.

"Hearing his name made me feel like I was back in Brooklyn." Or something along those lines. Marvel can't make Cap gay, but that was obviously an undertone of why he was doing all this. There is a lot of killing though lol. Cap's Avengers' use guns yo. And yes, I know you're being sarcastic in an attempt to make BvS look better.

I'm not. I love them both. But every time I watch this, I can make multiple call backs to BvS. Two completely different ways of telling almost the same story.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
These Marvel team-up movies are getting more and more difficult to sit through. I essentially agree with David's review. I wouldn't even call this a movie, it's a product by committee, with zero stakes and wholly unbelievable motivations for any of the main characters. The whole gang ends up fighting each other solely to provide the excuse for CGI superheroes to 'brawl' and trade barbs. The emotional stakes are meaningless because 1. I don't care about these characters nor does the movie make me, 2. the outcome feels about as important as the graphics generating programs pulsing at the movie's core.
Furthermore, it's ugly and plain. There's no feeling of artistry whatsoever. I think this was directed by an algorithm. I'm so so bored with the Avengers franchise.
that said, I did enjoy Spider-man here, although as others have pointed out, his being asked by Stark to come fight in a battle makes absolutely no sense.

To answer a question posed in the thread by Dr. Lecter ("why are people so high on the first Avengers?"): I loved the first Avengers despite some minor flaws. It was pure popcorn, it was fun, and it was the first time all these superheroes appeared together. I can't stress the importance of that novelty enough. How quickly I've become bored with the same product Marvel keeps churning out, even though they appear to check the same boxes as the first one. The excitement has dropped to nearly zero.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
Watched this again and I think I over-graded it. I think I let the second half cloud my feelings for the film as a whole. The film is trash up until Spider-Man and Ant-Man. The fights, choreography, editing, effects, amateurish film-making...all trash. Then the airport scene happens and it's a ball of fun until the end.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
I also feel Civil War is not going to hold up so well on repeat viewings, I just saw a brief clip a few weeks ago and it seemed a bit dull. I still remember some of the action vividly, the opening scene is cool and it's plot is fun. The whole zemo character is what annoys me more now that I would probably settle closer to judging the film as merely good instead of great when I first saw it. Then again it's still one of the best superhero action I've seen on screen, but once I see the whole film another time I'd be able to better pinpoint my thoughts about it.

I like Zemo. He adds a layer of mystery, a nice twist and he actually wins at the end. Gotta respect a guy who can break The Avengers in two, even if we know it wont last.

Zemo didn't bother me, though he isn't spectacular. The worst character in the film is Crossbones, which funnily enough is from the opening scene that you think is cool. I hated it. The action and filming are shit.

Well they are split up, though still friendly, which is why Thanos will easily tear through them next year. Poor Vision is gonna get his brain ripped out.
The only thing that bugs about the opening is that they're just killing people without hesitation. I feel like Cap would want things to be cleaner, with more prisoners to interrogate.

Liked that experience.

It is not easy to lose track of what's going on. Dude, it's a fucking superhero film. It was just badly choreographed and filmed. Maybe teens will like it.
