Might have to bump up my prediction a little. That's a lot of IMAX, but at the same time I'm reminded that discretionary income is very poor, so tough to gauge the impact of the premium boost.

Those 1000 IMAX theaters are from domestic as well as OS markets, specially China. From what I remember China has more or almost equal IMAX theaters compared to US and Fate is getting in ALL of those Chinese IMAX screens. I don't see the need to increase your domestic opening predictions because of that

BTW would it not have benefited this one to have released a week ahead in OS markets to give it a boost in US OW-wise? Marvel movies have been doing that successfully and given that this is assured to debut HUGE in China it would have given it the added publicity.

Fate of the Furious - 122

Spectre is a better comparison than the Dark Knight Rises. The Dark Knight Rises was also the end of a trilogy, of a closed ended trilogy. It seems to me that Furious 7 felt like an ending and this is just one too many.

Furious 7 was the perfect ending IMO. This movie just feels so unnecessary and that is coming from someone who loved Fast Five and Furious 6. I'll see it, but like I said before I'm not exactly hyped for it like the last three movies.

It will, of course, be massive, massive, massive, and the world shall cower in the shadow of its Chinese numbers, but it still definitely has the feel of the first sequel after a ripe opportunity to end the story. A total Saw IV.

I guess they should have just remade the first Fast and Furious to be fresh and unique.

Rallax@BOT posted presales at AMC and it looks really underwhelming. If I am not wrong Suicide Squad was more than 3m by this point. Only thing playing in its favor is that its a holiday weekend. I am going to say its going to barely open to 100m.

I dont think so. Furious 8 is opening in 392 imax screens in china. US has 450+ imax screens including the museums. But China will overtake that count as well.

I didn't realise that the USA had 450 IMAX screens, so I was wrong about China having double. But they will do once Wanda finishes its 6-year IMAX project (740 real IMAX and plenty of other fake IMAX).

Not exactly. 740 will be the total in China. Not all will be operated by Wanda. Wanda has a project where they will add 150 IMAX cinemas, which will bring the total in China to 740. So, best case is that there currently are still more IMAX screens in China than the US.

Beauty and Her Beast is gonna easily make 500m++. Over 3x more than Get Out which needs to totally get out.

Not very good for Fast 8. If it does not hit at least three times the percentage The Boss Baby gets by Thursday night, it might miss $100m OW.

That's indeed bad for fate and the reviews have started to slip as well. This might see a big drop if the numbers don't pick up soon. Would really help Guardians if this doesn't do huge numbers. But given the state of BO past few months I think we are in for a subdued summer

I know the franchise has had a decent amount of walk-ups in the past, but it's performance on MT has been pretty underwhelming so far honestly. For a film expected to open to $100M+ it should be doing a lot better IMO, but we'll just have to wait and see I guess. I wouldn't be too surprised anymore if it went sub $100M though.

Maybe I was right in initially saying under 100 Million .
