Quote:
The Forgotten is a 2004 American psychological thriller film, directed by Joseph Ruben and starring Julianne Moore. Most of the movie was filmed in New York City.

The movie revolves around a woman who thinks that she lost her son in a plane crash 14 months ago, only to wake up one morning and be told that she never had a son. All of her memories are intact but with no physical evidence that contradicts the claims of her husband and psychiatrist, she sets out in search for solid evidence of her son's existence.

It was produced by Revolution Studios for Columbia Pictures and was released in the United States and Canada on September 24, 2004.

Started off a little slow, but then really picked up. A great suspense thriller with a few really scary moments. In fact, while it didn't have as many scary moments as, let's say, The Grudge, the few scary moments it did have were truly GREAT. I practically flew out of my seat in one scene.

An intriguing and well-made thriller with a great lead performance.

Meh.

The Forgotten is spooky and reasonably effective for about an hour, before the ending spirals off into unmitigated stupidity. It all drags down the movie a great deal and makes the whole thing seem anticlimatic.

This was a quality movie. The best part about it was the consistent storyline - way better than most of the drivel they ever had on the X-Files or in a movie like Signs. The acting was great throughout, and the tone was consistently very creepy, maintaining the paranoia theme perfectly. The FX were minimally used, which was very effective compared to other movies in which they're used early and often. Wow! What a surprise - I wasn't expecting much after seeing the 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (either reviewers have gotten irreparably jaded or my tastes have completely disconnected from the general zeitgeist...).

Best sci-fi thriller of 2004!

5 out of 5.

I thought it was okay, though nothing special. It'd definetely something I'd buy eventually.

I thought it was unsettlingly bad.

I think I described it as (yes, I'm quoting myself) an "embarrassing, half-coherent mess wrapped up in a bow of pretty blue cinematography."

Really, I didn't think such a film could have the audacity to go so ridiculously over-the-top in its finale.

Yeah. I almost wish this movie ended after an hour, because we wouldn't have seen...that.

What a way to waste a promising first hour and a great performance by Julianne Moore. Moore's performance might be one of the best in a lame movie ever.

Not really creepy, just interesting. The cinematography is really good, because of the dark blue shading. The acting is pretty good, and I like the ending even though I had already guessed it.

I guess I'm quite in a minority, but I really really liked it and it made its way into my TOP 20 of 2004. Well-acted by Julianne Moore. This movie reminds me of an X-Files episode, but a really good X-Files episode when the series was just starting out. The suspense is great and the movie made me jump a couple of times. Overall, well-made with interesting theories, but unfortunately some plot holes and a rather disappointing ending.

It wasn't bad, it just wasnt gripping enough as a thriller.

B-/C+

will review it soon.

However the moment in the car [trying not to spoil] was one of the least expected and most thrilling things ive seen in a longgggg time.

The music over the whole film worked for all of 10 minutes; and then the ending in the air hanger felt like it was a tv movie before the playground scene was sickly obvious in its intentions.

Julianne Moore was spectacular, Domnic West was functional. This film was somewhere in between.

Spoilers ahoy

Good thrills, although the ending was ironic because my cousin even suggested that it would be funny if Julianne Moore's son was taken by aliens. Meh.

The extended edition ending was a lot better than the theatrical cut's ending. It wasn't as ridiculous. Of course it was less thrilling. But it answered more questions and it closed the story in a better way.

Overall, I give it a B-. Not a bad way to waste an hour and a half. I'll probably see it again, though not anytime soon. If you want a pretty good thriller with some AWESOME performances, I'd recommend this.

I'm surprised that Vince hasn't seen/commented on this. I'm not sure if he'd like it but it seems like something he'd see.

I did see it, and I enjoyed it quite a lot. Julianne Moore gives a great performance, and I thought the cinematography was beautiful. There was one scene that made me spill both my coke, and popcorn, and that has never happened to be before. It could of been better, but it was very entertaining, and I thought the twist ending was pretty cool, although a lot of people around here seem to loathe it.

Awful, except for Julianne Moore the movie is a complete waste. Maybe if the big twist wasn't revealed in the commercials that moment would've surprised me, but I still doubt I would've liked it much more. The ending was one of the worst I've ever seen, easily.

#38 in my all-time bottom 50.
