But why did the comic use this random "rest stop"'s coordinates? I guess we are just meant to assume the comic's writer saw it on a map or in a travel guide.

An affecting, brutally violent conclusion to the Logan/Wolverine character. This is easily a better film than The Wolverine and MUCH better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This universe has been calling out for a more reflective approach, and this movie's decidedly R rated and gritty sensibilities are a total fit. Hugh Jackman is superb. B+

The final shot is totally perfect.

I agree it's not perfect, but the kids all had access to that comic, and the nurses used it as the rendezvous point, not knowing what they would find.

As far as the comic. It's something sensationalized by the comics just for entertainment value because it somewhat existed. I'm guessing that at some point, this was considered maybe an "underground railroad" for mutants in the past, but its been far abandoned made fictitiously much more important than it was.

Can we talk about

Spoiler: show
Charles death. Holy shit. The first time I saw the movie I was so confused by what was going on. It almost felt like a dream for a bit. But then you know it's real, kind of took away from it. Saw it a second time today, and it is just a shocking moment, and pure craziness follows. I at first instinct, actually preferred Last Stand's (Hate the film all you want, but it is a great scene) but it is just so heart breaking watching that moment up to his final word. I guess that is my favorite thing for long time followers. You have either the DOFP ending, or you have this, and both work to their specific movie

I cannot wait for a directors cut. There are already a few things I know are missing. Honestly I can't spend enough in this movie.

It is a great, terrifying reveal.

I was surprised the black family died, even their teenage son. [BECAUSE THE PROFESSOR JUST NEEDED A COT AND A HOT.] The part where the father (Eriq La Salle) fires his out-of-shells shotgun at Logan before collapsing is quite grim and thought-provoking. A softer movie would have spared them or at least allowed for a moment where the father recognizes Logan is "innocent."

I liked Charles' death. We are concentrating on his words while simultaneously worrying that danger looms. Laura spots it. It's a great scene. And the carnage that proceeds almost doesn't give you a second to process what just happened. I love how the family also dies.

More establishing in the beginning (there was a 9 minute establishing the world before Logan just waking up), Xavier's role in the death of the X-men, The poisoning of the adamantium over the course of time (That might be the most confusing part of the film, he says he knows what it is, but we don't know why). No more action really, just a lot of scenes being trimmed for time.

After that, heard a few things, nothing that I'd say were more than rumors though. They are saying the West Chester thing may have been filmed, but I doubt it. (I know of at least one character of the series in the area while they were filming but I don't think it happened, if it did then holy I want to see it)

Are you sure this stuff was filmed?

Like I said, none of that was there at the test screening, and we were the first audience to see it (a month before reshoots).

Xavier's role in the death of the X-Men was beefed up, even, because that radio broadcast halfway through wasn't in the cut I saw.

I was under the assumption this "rest stop" was made BECAUSE of the comics. I assumed mutants went there, found nothing, so they built something.

Anyway...

My grade...

A

Indeed. It was a brave move killing off the family (especially the wife and son) but it certainly pays off. The final Eriq La Salle scene is brilliant.

Mangold just recently said in an interview that the Westchester scene was always intended to open the movie. But he said it loomed over the rest of the film and it was dropped and never made it to screenings. He never said it wasn't filmed though. So take that as you will. Even if it was filmed, I doubt we'll ever see it. I'm just hoping for extended scenes and the black and white filter they were talking about. (I wouldn't mind a few more scenes fleshing out the villains (It seems Mangold tried to limit them as much as possible, like I think there is one line about mutants being exterminated because by soda or something like that, I wouldn't mind that being better explained)

Post Re: Logan
The ending is so good that it elevates the rest of the movie into greatness. I like some westerns, but I'm not the biggest fan of the genre because they're usually slow and leave me cold. Logan is not an exception to this. The violence, rather than exhilerating like the mansion scene in X2, is rather unpleasant. It reminded me of the way Mel filmed the battle scenes in Hacksaw. Rather than go "oh hell yeah!" I thought "oh hell, this could have been avoided." The viewer can see why Wolvi is so tired of this life, and that the endless killing is eating him alive just as much as the adamantium poisoning him. And even though he is still an unstoppable killing machine, every hit he takes seems like it could be his last because of this. So while a happier ending, where Logan and Laura sail off happily ever after, would have put a smile on my face, and it would have undermined the story and made it no different than The Wolverine.

2. First Class
3. DOFP
4. Logan
5. X-Men
6. Apocalypse
7. Deadpool
8. The Wolverine
9. The Last Stand
10. Wolverine
