BEST ORIGINAL SONG
"How Far I'll Go" (Moana) Runner-up: "City of Stars" (La La Land) These are the only two KJ fails, and Best Original Song is understood because of too many options for people to vote for for one film. God forbid what you like personally loses! KJ forbid, actually.

Obviously there wasn't enough passion for any one song from La La Land to cinch the award. Doesn't mean How Far I'll Go doesn't deserve it's win. It's best original song, not best original songs.

There was passion, but it just fell prone to spreading of votes in the end, so that song from Moana edged them all out in the end. If there was one song nominated from La La Land, it would have trebled the amount of votes for that song from Moana.

Obviously La La Land had more beloved songs overall, but none stood out like the one from Moana. You're sounding like the Democrats after Trump won!

Obviously La La Land had more beloved songs overall, but none stood out like the one from Moana. You're sounding like the Democrats after Trump won! I bet all three La La Land songs received more votes than the Moana song. All those people would have preferred a La La Land song to win Best Original Song over that Moana song. Therefore, if there was one La La Land song in the nominees, it would have been getting ALL of those votes. It's just that there were too many to choose from, so the votes were spread. If it was ranked, all of those ballots that chose a La La Land song for #1 would probably have that Moana song at #4 or lower. The Moana song is just a lucky winner.

Maybe people got Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds mixed up. It wouldn't surprise me.

La La Land cleaned up. Arrival did really well too if you think runner-up in a lot of categories is still good.

Btw big thanks to the Doc. I know it seemed like nobody cared this year, but you powered through anyways. And these winners fit us perfectly, so who needs more votes?

It can still be a great film, but when talking competition...#2 ain't good.

I was worried he would say "fuck it" and lose interest half-way through, but he stayed the course. So I hope this hasn't disheartened him too much for subsequent years.

The absolutely dead show made me a bit sad. But I guess I was part of the problem since I did not "attend," either.
The results are solid. La La Land is marvelous and deserving. I notably prefer it to the overrated Arrival, so I am glad the awards did not end up dominated by Arrival.

I would've come if I could. But unlike the last few years, there was absolutely no drama in the best picture race. And that is all that really matters.

Aw so many "close but no cigar" categories for Arrival. I watched the last 20 minutes (yet again) earlier and teared up.
