Are any on-the-bubble '16 films worth producing a sequel to?
Should Universal continue the Bourne franchise with Matt Damon? Should Ride Along 3 be considered? Are any modest hits (The Accountant, Lights Out, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) worth "sequelizing"? Would Sausage Party's novelty extend to a second film? Does Warcraft's overseas performance justify a sequel despite the toxic critical reception and very poor domestic number?

Re: Are any on-the-bubble '16 films worth producing a sequel
Sorry, but I don't know what "on-the-bubble" means, so here goes:
Don't Breathe should probably get a sequel. As will Lights Out, probably. I don't think there should be another Jack Reacher film. That well has dried up. I'd like to see another in the Fallen franchise, maybe this time Beijing or Tokyo. And while I loved The Angry Birds Movie, a sequel isn't needed, and would flat-out fail.
As for your picks; I hope to God that Bourne is now dead. Sausage Party 2 will fail, so no point in that one. Warcraft deserves a sequel. The Two Towers improved on The Fellowship, and I believe Warcraft 2 (or Starcraft - or whatever the other game is called) would too.

Not sure if you have already taken that into account, but Ride Along 3 and Lights Out 2 have been announced already. Especially the latter definitely makes sense, as these can be made on the cheap and will always bring in the money. Expect it to become an Insidious-like franchise.
Angry Birds 2 is apparently being produced too.
Bourne 6 would still be worth if if they can keep the budget the same as with Jason Bourne. This is a guaranteed $350+ million worldwide performer. Maybe they can actually make a good film again.
Ghostbusters is very much on the bubble. I wouldn't make a sequel, but Sony is desperate.
The Legend of Tarzan would have been perfect for a sequel had it not cost $185 million (for fuck's sake...)

Re: Are any on-the-bubble '16 films worth producing a sequel
On-the-bubble means could go either way, on the threshold, etc.
I wish everyone involved tried harder with Jason Bourne. Damon and Greengrass returned to the franchise propelled by such goodwill, and other than one or two spectacular action set pieces, they completely settled for just-enough competency...with a side of poorly developed storytelling (the absurd history with Bourne's father being assassinated, "personalizing" the action in the blandest superhero-origin-story type of way). I wish it were more Skyfall and less...I don't know, Star Trek into Darkness.

I have a feeling Ghostbusters 2 will not happen with McCarthy, Wiig, etc. Just a bad vibe for everyone involved coupled with a fairly muted box-office performance, particularly overseas. Another reboot perhaps? Maybe the animated one they have previously threatened? Oh, how I would love a Legend of Tarzan 2.

Re: Are any on-the-bubble '16 films worth producing a sequel
I believe The Accountant 2 could grow from the first. It made 150 million and counting worldwide on a budget of 44 million. Its legs were strong.
Creatively, too, I believe the interesting Ben Affleck character could shine in a streamlined, improved sequel.

I don't think The Accountant is really being considered for a sequel.

I haven't seen it, but The Accountant feels like a standalone film with Oscar intentions, not the start of a franchise ala John Wick.

This is bang on. But I believe a sequel could do better with a better storyline. Perhaps a second Ghostbusters team (a male one) and they go head-to-head, or something.

I am convinced you will see where I am coming from after you see it. It reminds me a lot of The Bourne Identity or John Wick. One of its best attributes is the introduction of a mysterious, striking action hero.

What about Stark Trek? It was once again well received by critics, but saw a hefty decrease both domestically as well as worldwide. Unless they manage to cut the budget a good deal, a sequel could be a big flop.

what about X-Men? Can it continue with the younger cast only?

Warcraft. If they manage to reduce the budget and hire some Chinese actors it can survive just with international grosses and develop a small franchise, just like Besson's Arthur movies did.

I guess Independence Day: Resurgence would be right in there too.

Star Trek is certainly getting another sequel. Chris Hemsworth has been signed on to reprise his small role from the 09 film.

Surely Warcraft is a lock for a sequel with it sitting at #207 on the All Time Worldwide Box Office list and the opportunity to see what will become of Go'el, Moses of the Orcs...

Wasn't a huge part of that budget due to the project being years in development hell hence accumulating the end cost? Maybe the actual film wasn't that costly? I definitely think the sequel could be made for a much lesser budget despite the cast and crew getting a payrise.

Re: Are any on-the-bubble '16 films worth producing a sequel
to continue the Bourne franchise, they really should ditch Greengrass. He's violently opposed to taking the material in a new direction, violently opposed to working with professional writers (he co-wrote the last film with his editor) and just keeps on remaking the second film in slightly different locations, and audiences have started to catch on. The trouble is Damon claims he won't keep on making them unless Greengrass stays.

I'd love a sequel to The Nice Guys (Gosling and Crowe were great together, Black could easily LW it) I wonder what both Dead Shot and Girls of Gotham means to another Suicide Squad movie.

Re: Are any on-the-bubble '16 films worth producing a sequel
The Accountant seems like it would be the start of a series and it was a hit so they should definitely continue it. It would probably make more than the first. People really liked it.
I think a Ghostbusters 2 could increase if they had a rival male team. A lot of men were turned off by the all female leads.
I would love a sequel to Nice Guys! Damn stupid audiences not supporting it. If Shane Black gets enough clout at some point I think he should use it to get one made.
Sausage Party 2 would probably only do like 45 Million and considering they'd have to get a new animation company after screwing over the ones who did the first I really doubt they'll bother. I personally would welcome one though. Maybe they'll do another original R-Rated animated movie though.
I still wish they'd make a Bourne movie with Damon AND Renner. Obviously another Bourne movie would make money and they'll probably want to go out with a better movie than Jason Bourne.
