Assassin's Creed is at 15% rt. Why is this genre so hard?

I think Passengers just might get by with how sucky the options are this Christmas season.

I don't think it's just the genre. Based on the trailer AC has a really bad story that I don't see how it can work in the movies. It's reeks of dumbness.

What a lousy bunch of Christmas offerings. Even Sing has so-so reviews. Might be the first holiday season I don't bother seeing any of the new releases.

Last year's choices were even worse though. Guess that's what happens when Star Wars takes up December.

Even though it's a pretty mediocre movie I could see Sing doing 200m+ just cause Rogue One isn't as kid friendly as TFA.

I still don't understand what Fassbender and Cotillard are doing in Assassin's Creed, let alone that Fassbender produced.

Fassbender must be a fan. He's been attached to this forever and must have talked Marion into it.

Good move by La La Land - perfect counter programming to the current crop of films.

I have never played the Assassin's Creed games and I understood only two thirds of what was going on in the film. I saw it with a colleague who played all the games and he liked the movie.

LLL has been advertised as going wide on Christmas for awhile. I feel like it won't be more than 1500 theaters though.

La La Land is going into 750 theaters on Christmas. I imagined me they won't go above 1000 theaters untill January.

I believe it was part of the agreement for Macbeth. If the 3 of them (Marion, Fassbender, director) agreed to do Assassins Creed, they could make Macbeth.

But that would only make sense if the production companies or the distribution company would be the same for both films, and it's not. The only production company that is listed as participating in both films is Fassbender's own and he wasn't going to 'blackmail' himself.

Shrug...could be wrong, and sounds like it may very well be! I heard that last year when Macbeth was coming out.

Only 65% of RT users so far have liked Passengers. Pretty rough for a film with high aspirations.

Passengers isn't being sold all that well. It is just a poster with two big faces on it. Not just lazy but also not telling anyone anything. It'll do well enough but NOWHERE NEAR the high expectations of $175m-$200m that I've seen for it.

Why that low for La La Land?

I think it will do over 2 million Sunday and Monday but Christmas Eve will hurt the weekend. During the week I could see around 2 million probably every day. Maybe I'm wrong and it can do more this weekend.
