Precisely why I said it will need overseas (i.e. domestic won't be enough).

Allied's fucked. So is Warren Beatty. Other two will be fine, though Moana will not get that back domestically.

Nocturnal Animals is huge. It'll lose money.

I hope Office Christmas Party loses money too, but with that budget it's looking good.

You wouldn't say it need to cost (much) more than Manchester and Sloane...what made it around double that? Shooting locations, the cast?

I'd guess the cast. Four of them are hot right now and can charge more than usual. Ok, three, but still. ;)

Passengers if it was to have proper effects is no surprise at all, but AC, jeez, they really went all out with it...guess it has a shot at $300m worldwide, but feels awfully risky still, doubt it's making more than $50m domestically, so that's a big flop.

I think AC won't even make $125m worldwide. It just looks dreary and devoid of any fun or excitement.

Might be tough for it to make that back worldwide. Still, it's of to a good start in China.

The budgets are fine for those two.
Passengers cost around the same as Gravity/Martian.
Assassin's Creed should also have good numbers overseas even if it bombs in the states. Warcraft did 433m, i dont think it will be hard for this to cross atleast 200m, it's a popular game.

Warcraft is a legendary game. And it had a huge following in China. Assasin's Creed doesn't have the same status. It is a popular game, byt Warcraft is a wrong comparison for it. Expect way less than half the gross for it in China where WC was good for $220m.

I think those budgets are both too high for what either film will make.

I am surprised by Assassin's Creed's budget. It is not on the screen. Plays more as a film made for 40, maybe 50 million, similar to, say, either Hitman movie. The most lavish scenes, notably a second-act chase over the roofs of a 15th-century Spanish city, have a chopped-up, digitized, overly color-timed quality suggesting obfuscation of limited resources.

They produce their films in France which is apparently cheaper.
