Neither will ever actually end no doubt. But the current hype surrounding both will dwindle until each franchise is put to rest for 10 or so years before being revived. Will Star Wars or the MCU do so first?

I think Marvel is home free until Infinity War. As is Star Wars until Episode IX. Both come out in 2019. Where they decide too take each franchise after that is not yet certain.

I'd agree with that. Star Wars has less source material to go off of. Marvel has decades of comic books to adapt.

I don't think either will. I mean Star Wars has been around for 39 years, Marvel is still a baby face. We will just get different versions as it moves forward. SW brand will work as they can always just go original films. I think the only thing you can say is that Canon SW will go dormant for a good period before there is another trilogy. Or maybe the end of the Skywalker influence on it.

I do agree that both series will have major shifts 2019 on. So both. It'll just depend on who can move past it better.

MCU is planned through 2023.

Maybe we can call it once their next movie is going to be a reboot.

Star Wars was dormant for 16 years, then again for ten years. MCU has yet to have a break after 12+ movies. So Star Wars will be the first to go dormant again.

Even if Marvel runs into a string of disappointments, I think we'd see more of a "scaling back" rather than an outright halt to new movies. It's highly unlikely that all of their franchises would go cold at once, so they could go to one movie a year or every other year while they pulled their shit together.

If things got really desperate towards the end of the next decade, they could always go back to the Iron Man well with a 60-something Tony Stark taking on one last mission. Creed with repulsor rays.
