That hasn't got $151m potential.

Other than final shot, very underwhelming no doubt

Re: SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING >$151m OW Club
I might not be joining this club, but the hype for this movie is real. Spider-Man in the MCU is definitely getting people excited and you can bet Sony/Marvel are going to take full advantage of that. This is definitely opening to 100M+ and should finish over $300M, but anymore than that will depend heavily on reviews.

I think the hype at the moment is not at the street level. It's just Internet buzz. I cannot see the ordinary man on the street being overjoyed at paying a further $20 to see yet another Spider-Man film.

Out! It's the sixth Spider-Man movie in 16 years not counting his appearance in Civil War. The novelty factor is gone, and it also feels small in scale compared to the recent 'all heroes together' films. It will do good, but I see it landing in between Dr. Strange and Civil War, probably closer to the former.

It looks better than the Amazing Spider Man films. But I think this opens to around 115 million and closes with less than 300. People are burned out on Spider Man

Re: SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING >$151m OW Club
I also like the fact that it seems more grounded like the first two Raimi movies, especially after the overblown CGI fests in the TASM movies. Not every superhero movie has to be a huge spectacle, but it does sell better in OS markets however if the movie turns out to be really good than it shouldn't matter much no ways.

More grounded? A giant Vulture suit vs a green goblin military suit. Which seems more grounded?

All I'm saying is that it's refreshing every once in a while to see a smaller scale take with a superhero movie. Ant-Man definitely benefited from it and Suicide Squad would have been a lot better without all the portal in the sky bullshit, but that's just my opinion.

If it hadn't been for the Garfield Spider-mans, this would be a virtual lock for 200 OW.

I get what you mean, but Spider Man is literally flying with Iron Man and holding a ship together.

Re: SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING >$151m OW Club
So the trailer launch was so successful that Marvel/Sony are already scheduling a sequel for July 5,2019. As premature as it might seem this lets you know that the interest is definitely there, but not knowing how the previous movie will turnout is always a gamble. Fan4stic is the best/recent example I can think of, but I doubt this movie will end up being that bad. Still I wish they would atleast wait a while before making these kinds of announcements.

Release dates are becoming like commercial real estate. Tough to grab so people buy years in advance

Re: SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING >$151m OW Club
The last four films Iron Man has appeared in have all opened over 175 million. I don't see why that would change.
It sucks this couldn't get 4th of July weekend, though to be fair, this weekend 10 years ago DMC dethroned Spider-man as the OW record holder. SW absolutely is safe, but come on. Iron Man alone it would make 151+ million.

Civil War might have had an average crowd response based on its legs, but the one constant was how everyone loved Spidey. And although the Marvel films probably do just fine with kids, Spidey actually being a kid might even bring in younger children (even if it's still PG-13).
Throw in coming out right after the 4th and patriotism, and $151m might seem cute.
