Or will you try to argue that The Force Awakens has around the same amount of fans as Astro Boy? It also had a 4.7 multiplier. That's quite indicative of good word-of-mouth, even if it is at Christmas. It made $230m of its gross before the holidays even began. Every family was inevitably going to have to watch it at the theatre based on their love of the one true adaptation by Chuck Jones. $250m sounds about right for one obligatory ticket for every domestic mom, dad and child. It's multiplier was on the high side because many chose to watch it over the Xmas holidays after it was released for Thanksgiving. My surprise isn't that people saw it, but rather that any of them liked it. The Salon review captured some of the widespread antipathy towards this crap at the time of it's release: You will not like it on the screen, you will not like it -- not one scene!
