Difference between good acting and scenery chewing?
I struggle to tell the difference. Any tips on how to spot which is which?

Re: Difference between good acting and scenery chewing?
If you like it, it's good acting. If you don't, it's scenery chewing.

Re: Difference between good acting and scenery chewing?
People scenery chew in real life all the fucking time, so acting can mimic that and still be good. It's all subjective, so just go with what Chippy said and you'll be fine.

I was just thinking of Meryl Streep in Into the Woods. I think she was amazing, but David called her scenery chewing theatrics unspectacular.

We don't all have to agree.

Movies are subjective.

Re: Difference between good acting and scenery chewing?
To me, the best acting doesn't look like acting. When you can see the acting, it's failed.
EDIT: Except musicals, which exist in another fantasy time/space completely.

Watch anything Star Trek with the original cast. Watch what Nimoy does. Then watch Shatner.
